Love it, I know a gorgeous teenaged Fia.

Brokenbiscuit · 23/05/2017 21:34

How is it pronounced the same as Thea?

AdalindSchade · 23/05/2017 21:34

Fia sounds like Thea with a cockney Th

Lauren1x · 23/05/2017 21:35

Would you have Fia or Sofia and use Fia as a nickname? I'm loving Fia Daisy or Sofia Daisy 💖

people will fink you can't say Thea.

Rainshowers · 23/05/2017 21:37

I have a Sophia who called herself 'Fia' when she first started talking and it's stuck amongst some of her little friends. I think it's cute, but I'm acutely aware that it might sound like I'm mispronouncing 'Thea' so tend to revert to her full name in public.

YesMilk · 23/05/2017 21:37

But Fia can't be pronounced the same as Thea Confused

Lauren1x · 23/05/2017 21:41

Maybe I'm pronouncing Thea wrong sorry.

if I saw Fia as a name on its own I'd wonder if it was said like fire or fear, but with Thea in the OP I'd go with fear and the whole inability to make a th sound.

Lauren1x · 23/05/2017 21:50

I was pronouncing Thea (Thee-Uh)

OP posts:
fassbendersmistress · 23/05/2017 21:50

I think OP means it would be pronounced Fee-ah, just like Thee-ah. I don't think she's attempting to re-jig the English language and insist 'F' is pronounced 'Th'!!!

WaitrosePigeon · 23/05/2017 21:51

people will fink you can't say Thea.

Fia is really really really bad.

Lauren1x · 23/05/2017 21:55

That's exactly how I was pronouncing them so it would be Fee-ah Daisy

It's a phonics nightmare.....

((Says someone who teaches foniks))

C0untDucku1a · 23/05/2017 21:57

Thea is th ee a
Fia is f ee a

If it sounds the same youre not pronouncing 'th' sound properly. '

reallyanotherone · 23/05/2017 21:58

"I don't think she's attempting to re-jig the English language and insist 'F' is pronounced 'Th'!!!"

My dh would tell you "th" is pronounced "f".

to him, death and deaf are pronounced the same. Thea and fia would also be said exactly the same way- both with an f.

We had to avoid any names with a th sound for this reason.

C0untDucku1a · 23/05/2017 21:59

Im stil confused op. If itnwould be fee ah then thats fia, not thea.

buttercup54321 · 23/05/2017 22:01

Fia too much like Fiat, Thea is quite nice. Th ee a.

planbatman · 23/05/2017 22:02

Fia is an anglicisation of the Irish name Fiadh. So it won't work with phonics the way you would teach them in English.

reallyanotherone · 23/05/2017 22:06

Plan- would you say it "five" then? I know a wee girl called siadh "sive as in five" according to her parents.

Greenifer · 23/05/2017 22:06

I know a Phia. Everyone who has not seen her name written down assumes she is called Thea (we are in London). I expect Fia would be the same.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/05/2017 22:11

I like Fia (Fear), but Not Thea. I.don't know why, but it makes me think of thawed out food.

planbatman · 23/05/2017 22:14

No I'd say it Fee-ah. I'd say Thea as Th-eah. Hard Th.
Siadh I've never heard before but Siabh/Sadbh is pronounced similarly to Sive.

llhj · 23/05/2017 22:17

There's an Irish name Fiadh which is pronounced Fee ah, means wild. Very pretty. No one has this problem thinking it's Thea? They're totally different names.

ImperialBlether · 23/05/2017 22:18

Oh lord, just stick to a proper bloody name. Fia isn't a name here.
