I've changed my name as obviously this thread totally identifies me.

I have three children already called
Nina
Eliza
Hector

Dc4 coming out of the sun roof very soon. Here is our shortlist
Anna - this is our favourite and honours DH's recently deceased nan, but is it too close to Nina?
Violet - the DD's choice
Anya
Esther

Anna is close to Nina but I think that you can still use it, Anya is lovely too. I like the other names but I think that it would be nice to stick to a short name ending in 'a' like your other two girls. How about Rosa or Thea.

frums · 06/05/2017 07:39

Do you really think we can get away with Anna? I'd love that but I'm afraid people will snigger when they hear.

Rosa is lovely but not with our last name. Thea sounds like "fear" to my war but I like the way you are thinking. We thought of Willa and Dora but they seemed too American.

I love Anna, and don't think there's any problem with it going with Nina. It's especially fine if Nina is the eldest and Anna the youngest, as you wouldn't normally put their names next to each other.

I had a similar situation and decided against the favourite name - I've regretted it ever since. Plus you have a sentimental reason.

Congratulation - how exciting!!! 💐💐💐

BellsaRinging · 06/05/2017 07:45

I wouldn't think twice about having Anna and Nina. If it's your favourite I would go for it...and it's a really nice name!

juneau · 06/05/2017 07:47

Anna and Nina is fine. Anya and Nina is also fine.

I hate Esther! S and th just don't go together. Sounds utterly insipid.

WhispersOfWickedness · 06/05/2017 07:48

Anna is lovely and goes fine with Nina Smile

allthatnonsense · 06/05/2017 07:52

I love your choices, but I agree that Anna and Nina are too alike and in my opinion Esther is too similar to Eliza.

So that leaves Violet and Anya.

sallywiththegoodhurr · 06/05/2017 07:53

@frums firstly congratulations on your soon to born DC4!

I like Anna and Violet from your list.
My DD is called Dora and we've only had positive comments about it, never even thought about it sounding American

FluffyBathTowel · 06/05/2017 07:54

Anna Violet is nice. I don't think Anna and Nina sound similar

Littleraincloud · 06/05/2017 07:56

I love Anna and anya but perhaps Anna sounds a little more in keeping with your other names? They all match and it isn't as though you only have 2 children with similar names so when you tell people you will run through the list of four. Congratulations and good luck

frums · 06/05/2017 07:56

It had not even occurred to me that Eliza and Esther are also similar. I think I'm just terribly unoriginal and love the same names in slightly different guises.

I love Anna, I think you can get away with it, I am not so keen on Anya. I don't think of Dora as being American in the slightest, it is pretty, and fits well with your children's names. Congratulations and good luckSmile

Can't see the problem with Anna and Nina.

Eliza and Esther on the other hand I think sound too similar.

Go with Anna, it's lovely.

Stuckatthestopsign · 06/05/2017 08:04

Good luck!

Annabelle with Anna as a nn?
Esmé ?

Papyrus · 06/05/2017 08:07

What about Clara?

Ikeameatballs · 06/05/2017 08:09

I think Anna and Nina are ok together but I would go for Anya over Anna. Violet is also lovely.

Other ideas:
Cara
Polly
Wren
Jean
Mary

Oddsocksforeveryone · 06/05/2017 08:12

For no. 3 we took my beloved nan's name and her mother's name and mixed them together. Anne & Lily. We named her Lillian.
Would something like that work?
Congratulations :)

PuckeredAhole · 06/05/2017 08:14

Annie?

Mothervulva · 06/05/2017 08:23

Anna. Goes well with Nina.

Mrsknackered · 06/05/2017 08:33

Love Anna/Anya/Violet.

I detest Esther! I think it's so harsh sounding.

I think Anya OP Smile

Backhometothenorth · 06/05/2017 08:52

Love your names OP (I have DD's Annie and Esther)

I don't think Eliza and Esther are too similar but maybe I'm biased Smile.

Other names I like are Olive, Iris and Miriam

Congratulations Flowers

OhDearToby · 06/05/2017 09:19

I like Anya and Anna. In fact they're both on my very short short list for dd3. I'm leaning towards Anya but I see no problem with Anna and Nina together.

I'm not keen on Violet and Esther.

temporarilyjerry · 06/05/2017 09:23

Anna and Nina are similar but wouldn't make people snigger, imo. It's a lovely, classic name and a lovely tribute to your DH's nan.

Flowers for you.

WannaBeAWarhol · 06/05/2017 09:25

Willa is my favourite girls name and what we wanted to call DS2 (had he been a girl) but every time we mentioned we liked it people said "do you mean willow?" It got really annoying.

wobblywonderwoman · 06/05/2017 09:26

Anna is obne of my favourite names. I also like Violet.

You could totally get away with a Nina and Anna - especially as you have four children so there are other names in between
