Boys names are HARD

talulahbelle · 01/05/2017 21:24

I've a section booked for 10 days time, we are having a boy.
We have NO names, not even a decent short-list we agree on.

Can I have suggestions please...
So far after discussion we've decided that the name can't begin with M/P/B/E to avoid alliteration with our surname, or sharing initials with family members (DH's idea)
Also not ending in -ie/-y sounding full or nicknames, to avoid being too rhyme-y with DDs name.
Nothing in the top 10ish list.
We like classic names, but loads of them are already in use by family and friends.

Middle name will likely be James.

Thanks if you can help :)

James is a fab name, what about having it as a first name? not biased

talulahbelle · 01/05/2017 21:51

My nephew has a cousin that has a name I like, OK to use or not?

So many of these names are connected with family, or already used by friends. Our number one boys name from DD (Alex) has been used by another friend in our NCT group.

James is my FIL name/family name. He'd be thrilled, it might just come to that.
My dad would be less impressed but I'm sure he'd cope.

What we did was trawl through the National Statistics baby names stats for boys and note down any that we liked. Then we compared lists. By some miracle there was a name we both liked and so that was it Grin

Sandsnake · 01/05/2017 21:56

I was going to suggest Alexander. I still think it would be absolutely fine, genuinely. Personally I think that if you've already got a child and mix in kiddies circles you will struggle to find a name not already 'taken' by someone you know. Alexander James is really lovely (or just Alex).

Cheerybigbottom · 01/05/2017 21:57

I have a Lucas James and I think it's pretty decent Grin also think James is still a lovely first name itself.

JoWithABow · 01/05/2017 21:57

Alex is a lovely name, really don't let someone in your NCT group using it put you off!

Our current list: Anthony, Magnus, Rupert, Florian, Vincent or Hector.

What about
Jonathan, Julius, Gabriel, Anton, Cormac, Dean, Sebastian, Samuel, Thomas or Ulrik?

James is a really nice name imo.

I think you can use nephew's cousin's name- by DB has the same name as our cousin's cousin and it's never really been an issue. We did see them at family gatherings growing up but they just got called Big name and Little name on those days

I like:
Rory
Robert
George
Jesse
