Boys names are HARD

talulahbelle · 01/05/2017 21:24

I've a section booked for 10 days time, we are having a boy.
We have NO names, not even a decent short-list we agree on.

Can I have suggestions please...
So far after discussion we've decided that the name can't begin with M/P/B/E to avoid alliteration with our surname, or sharing initials with family members (DH's idea)
Also not ending in -ie/-y sounding full or nicknames, to avoid being too rhyme-y with DDs name.
Nothing in the top 10ish list.
We like classic names, but loads of them are already in use by family and friends.

Middle name will likely be James.

Thanks if you can help :)

Honestly, you probably won't stay friends with your NCT lot all your life, don't let that put you off using your favourite name.

I love Alex. Can't you have your dad's name as a middle name?

annandale · 01/05/2017 22:19

Alex is great. I have two first cousins with the same name, there was a bit of chuntering when it first happened but only from distant aunts. Just use the name you like, no wonder you are struggling otherwise.

Was about to see the same as snap8! James is fab as a first name.

itsacatastrophe · 02/05/2017 07:11

It is absolutely fine to use names that family and friends have used. Unless it is a completely unique made up name and that is the only child in the whole wide world that has it, then they will sure meet loads of other babies/children/adults with the same name. They don't own the rights to it.

You put to much stead into what other people have/think :)

A child's name that you love is more important than someone in the periphery of your life having/knowing someone with the same name.

Think of a list of names that you like if you had no restriction's (ruling out names for the sake of initial's is in all honesty ridiculous, and massively limits options).

Once you have that list, discuss with your DH.

Honestly the initials thing is so bizarre to me!! We have 4 people in my immediate family (both parents and 2 siblings) all with the same initials, I've never heard anyone ever comment that it is weird they have the same initials. Really weird of your husband!

MotherofBoy · 09/05/2017 10:34

We liked ones ending in 'ert' and also liked traditional:

Rupert
Herbert (Herbie or Bertie)
Elliot

Or top of our list if and when we have no 2:

Frederick (Freddy/Fred)

We were dead set on our boys name good job DS was a boy as we reallly had no idea for a girl!

WhiteHairReally · 09/05/2017 11:51

I 'm with Cherries on the initials thang your DH has going on. Almost all the men in our family have variants on the same three initials ( and names tbf) It's actually a bonding thing for them.

As far name matching with NCT. We gave our DS the same name as the DS of the Chair of the local branch at the time. Well out of the top 100 but a trad name. She and her DH were chuffed we shared their good taste. They're still 'Christmas Card Friends' 21 years later, although we've moved far far away.
