Finally, we have our final 3 names but we just can not decide.
I love all 3 and it's proving difficult to pick.
What does everyone think?
Her middle name will be Elizabeth and that's set in stone.
Margo Elizabeth - nn Maggie
Effie Elizabeth
Agnes Elizabeth

Elizabeth is lovely though

I really like Margot Elizabeth. With the t as to me it looks odd and unfinished otherwise. I know the Germanic countries pronounce the t but I think most native English speakers would default to the "margo" pronunciation. I think it's because I read a lot as a child and it was a popular character name in older books.

Effie isn't great and I also hear eff-ing Elizabeth. I actively dislike Agnes as to me that's an octogenarian great aunt it is a solid name that is having a resurgence so won't be weird. Amazed about Senga, have heard that nickname in older ladies but didn't know why!

pinkhorse · 02/05/2017 06:53

Effie sounds like a swear word and the other two remind me of old ladies, sorry

SuperBeagle · 02/05/2017 07:03

Also in the US the city of St Louis is pronounced Lou-is.

On the contrary, Louisville is lou-ee-ville. The Americans can't make their minds up, apparently.

I don't think international pronunciation is an issue, tbh. Most names are going to be somewhat butchered outside of their "home country" or language.

But I don't like any of the names, sorry, OP. At a push, I'd pick Effie. Purely because I think Margo(t) and Agnes are really awful.

greyffinch · 02/05/2017 07:08

I like Effie if it is a shortened version of Euphemism or Elizabeth but on its own it sounds like a polite way of swearing.

marmitecrumpets · 02/05/2017 07:26

Margo

ChilliMum · 02/05/2017 08:10

Love them all, especially Agnès (I know one and she is lovely).

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/05/2017 09:07

I like them all, though Margot spelling

I like Agnes best. It's lovely and vintage and Aggie it Ness are both adorable nicknames

Second choice would be Effie. I've only ever met one (small daughter of a lecturer several years ago). I love the alliteration of Effie Elizabeth

I also really like Margot, just slightly less than the other two.

I don't think you can go wrong really. Brilliant short list :)

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 02/05/2017 09:19

Oh, tricky one, I vote for Margo(t).

Of all the names you mention I think Etta would be the one I'd go; for don't let some locals who can't say it properly put you off.

Mrsknackered · 02/05/2017 10:45

I like them all.
I think Margot though.
Effie is just skins to me and I don't really like Aggie

Thanks everyone what a response. I love how honest people are. As friends sometimes hold back a little (especially with pregnant people) ha ha

We have very similar taste OP! Our dd is Margot and if this next baby is a girl she will be Agnes. So obviously I love both of those names. (Our other options were Edie or Cecelia..). I do like Effie too but would prefer for it to be a nn for something longer, not sure what? You can't go wrong though, great choices.

AbernathysFringe · 03/05/2017 21:25

I thought Effie was short for Ephegenia (Mrs Doubtfire).
Agnes is lovely. Could be Nessie! I like Agatha in the same vein, but that's not what you're asking.
Margo I like although also with the t. The potential for Marg worries me though. They even called Gwyneth Paltrow that in Talented Mr Ripley.

MermaidsTears · 06/05/2017 06:23

Margo

BellsaRinging · 06/05/2017 06:41

Oooooh you have great name taste! Agnes is my choice, but I think all are great.

Margo

Margot might get mispronounced and is less intuitive to spell. Think of when she's 4 and learning to spell her name Smile

auntym · 19/05/2017 13:33

Sunshineandlaughter - You are incorrect Margot, Margo and Margaux are all accepted spellings of this name. It's personal preference and I'd pick Margo personally.

twinjocks · 19/05/2017 16:20

I love Effie, but I don't like it with Elizabeth as a mn. Agnes I don't like, although I love the Italian version Agnese (pr. An-yay-say, sort of) - it's so soft compared to the harsh sound of Agnes. Of your three, I like Margo(t) best. What about Edith?
