Thanks Smile

Not to me. But depending where you live it could be a brave choice.

KatherinaMinola · 29/04/2017 20:41

I love it. But yes, probably wouldn't use it if you live in an ex-mining town.

Beelzebop · 29/04/2017 20:41

Honestly, to me it sounds feminine. However, it depends if that bothers you or not xx.

timeforabrewnow · 29/04/2017 20:48

yup

Maggie2828 · 29/04/2017 22:44

Yes, I wouldn't use it in England.

Sophronia · 29/04/2017 22:45

I don't think it does. It's a great name. I know a few German boys called Florian.

NataliaOsipova · 29/04/2017 22:46

Echoing Sophronia, I'd assume you were German. Would think it slighly odd if neither parent was.

WyfOfBathe · 29/04/2017 22:47

Doesn't to me

Whileweareonthesubject · 29/04/2017 22:49

No. We stayed at a lovely country hotel a while back and one of the waiters was called Florian. He was from Germany or Austria I believe. He was very manly.

WyfOfBathe · 29/04/2017 22:49

But yes, I'd assume a parent was German or Eastern European (I know a Hungarian Florian, but I don't know if it's a typical Hungarian name)

TheVanguardSix · 29/04/2017 22:53

Wonderful name. Good choice, OP.

WildCherryBlossom · 29/04/2017 23:09

It's a wonderful name! I have known a few (all German or Austrian). I do see how it could sound effeminate to the British ear but I don't think you should let that put you off.

"do see how it could sound effeminate to the British ear but I don't think you should let that put you off" Can you explain why, if you are living in an English speaking country?

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 29/04/2017 23:34

Not at all. It's a lovely name!

Enidblyton1 · 29/04/2017 23:38

I like it

JynOdan · 29/04/2017 23:49

It is my surname and i have a very foreign first name that most people in the Uk have never heard of.
I've been mistaken for a man so many times... especially emails get regularly addressed to Mr Firstname. And just a few days ago I phoned my bank and the guy on the phone insisted he needs to speak to the card holder 'It says Mr Florian Firstname, must be your husband?'
Took me a few minutes to convince him to check his screen again. Poor guy was really embarrassed and apologized about five times Grin

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 29/04/2017 23:58

I know a few Florians here in Germany. Nice name but it might not go down so well in the UK.

pipilangstrumpf · 30/04/2017 14:51

Lovely boys name, nothing feminine about it. I know lots of boy Florians.

Fauchelevent · 30/04/2017 14:53

Never come across a Florian who wasn't unbelievably beautiful.

GriseldaChop · 30/04/2017 15:00

I know two Florians, one is a lovely French guy and the other was a friends horse! Don't let the horse bit put you off though! I think it's a lovely name and brings back fab memories of time I spent abroad.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 30/04/2017 15:02

Griselda

Well, let's hope he was a beautiful horse? ;)
I once "met" a horse called Daisy. I still like the name (for a human, I mean...)

All the Florians I've met were also really good looking, nice and intelligent. A name with a lot of good associations for me personally.

Skyllo30 · 30/04/2017 15:04

I like it and Flor would work as a shortening. Agree with PP that it depends on where you live!

GriseldaChop · 30/04/2017 18:00

Feed the shark - he was a gorgeous horse! 😊

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 30/04/2017 20:17

I love it - it reminds me of a mixture of Dorian and Fabian two more names I love.
