Hello,

I'm in Scotland and due in 2 weeks time. These two names are our top contenders but we can't chose. Which one do people like best?

Ta!

Mhairi just reminds me of that incredibly annoying butch SNP political wannabe, sorry a no from me
Kiera is better

bloodymaria · 28/03/2017 11:41

Mhairi is lovely! Would you pronounce it the Gaelic way (vari)?

bloodymaria · 28/03/2017 11:42

(Either way is nice though imo)

HoratioNightboy · 28/03/2017 12:13

I really like Mhairi but there will always be doubts about the pronunciation, i.e. Marry or Varry.

I like Kiera too, so for ease I'd choose that.

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 28/03/2017 13:12

I like Kiera.

Mhari is pronounced with a v, right? It does sound very lovely.

What about Màiri or just Mary? I feel like there may be less pronunciation issues... But Kiera is really pretty!

OnNaturesCourse · 28/03/2017 13:17

Mhairi I believe to be said Vhairi by some however Mairi / Mari is Marry to most. Depends how you want it to sound but I love both.

Kiera I'm not so keen on. Kiara however is a name I love.

Best of luck!

Rockaby · 28/03/2017 18:24

Mhairi Smile

Sophronia · 28/03/2017 18:44

Mhairi

BikeRunSki · 28/03/2017 18:47

Kiera

I am familiar with both names, but prefer Kiera.

LorLorr2 · 28/03/2017 18:49

Kiera!!

dancemom · 28/03/2017 18:52

There were lots of Keira's about Scotland around 10 years ago

I like Mhairi

ErrolTheDragon · 28/03/2017 18:54

They're both good names, but I think the lovely Ms Knightley has made Keira a bit overpopular, maybe not in a good way (if that sort of thing bothers you).

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/03/2017 19:07

Mhairi, lovely !
Don't like Keira, sorry.

MrsMeeseeks · 28/03/2017 19:15

Mhairi just reminds me of that incredibly annoying butch SNP political wannabe

Gross.

MrsMeeseeks · 28/03/2017 19:15

I like both, OP, but Keira is a bit more modern and easier to spell and pronounce.

olderthanyouthink · 28/03/2017 19:48

I don't even know how to say the m one, my brain can't figure it out

And FYI Kiera is the "correct" spelling Kiera knightleys was an error on her her mum made when registering her birth.

I vote Keira/Kiera

olderthanyouthink · 28/03/2017 19:49

Also kids can be mean and I foresee "hairy" or "I'm hairy" coming up

goodpiemissedthechips · 28/03/2017 19:50

I love Mhairi.

ChippyDucks · 28/03/2017 19:51

Mhairi is gorgeous. I know of too many dogs called Keira to think of it as a human name, sorry.

ChippyDucks · 28/03/2017 19:53

Oh, wait though. Would you pronunce it the traditional way (vaari?) If so I'd spell it Mairi.

AhNowTed · 28/03/2017 19:56

Both are lovely tho I much prefer the Gaelic spelling of Ciara (with fada over the i)

Lucked · 28/03/2017 19:58

Mhairi pronounced with a v sound. Lovely.

MistressMolecules · 28/03/2017 20:02

I was going to say Mhairi as I always thought it was pronounced Mar - ri and not with a V however I am really not keen on Keira at all so would still say Mhairi if the choice was between those two names.

BumbumMcTumtum · 28/03/2017 20:07

I would spell it Mhari but that's what I would go for (someone I know is called Mhairi and she ends up answering to Ma Hairy).
In Scotland I wouldn't call someone with the name Mhairi as Vhairi.

You can spell the name as Vhari and pronounce it as either if you wish.
