Lux is a soap.
Red is a dog.
And ffs don't let your dh give a girl the name James.

TheImprobableGirl · 28/03/2017 10:29

If you want something different I'd stay clear of Luna tbh- seems an influx after john legend and Chrissy teigen called their dd Luna!

AllRoundGoodEgg · 28/03/2017 11:06

@Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 obviously we have different tastes, which is fine.
I won't be letting DH call anybody James, total celeb fad after some actor I can't remember the name of called their kid james Hmm

AllRoundGoodEgg · 28/03/2017 11:08

@TheImprobableGirl I agree. Although I do love it!
Dd1 & 2 have names which are booming, dd1's more so as there are 3 in total moving up to the same primary school from nursery alone Shock and dd2's has been on here a lot lately after it being very under used 3 years ago.

A couple of comments:

Rocky/Rex (macho fun names) are a totally different vibe to August (posh, cultured names). If you don't have any other boys, only girls, then you might get away with either, but if you have girls called Clementine, Saffron and Ottilie you need to head more in the August direction.

There will be a million girls called Luna. It's like the default choice of minor celebs and soap stars.

I'd look at foreign name lists- a great source of inspo. Especially for girls.

Digby
Axel

LouisevilleLlama · 28/03/2017 11:14

To be fair wanting to call someone Lux, Red, August (less so) or meadow seems a little fadish to me, seems almost like - conception story "it was August s/he smelt of Lux we were in a meadow and wearing red one thing led to another and 10 months later here you are!"

It's personal preference of course but I actually find James a little better but Jamie more suitable as it's somewhat unisex

Ojoj1974 · 28/03/2017 11:14

Swithun for a boy
Katinka for a girl

Jooni · 28/03/2017 11:15

Love Luna, August, Wilf and Rex!

Your girls seem to be a bit hippie-quirky and your boys more formal-quirky. You might like:

I like Meadow and Rocky from your choices (although I kind of feel like Rocky is a nn and you'd need something else on bc but can't think what)

@LouisevilleLlama definitely no strange story, I just like names that I like? Doesn't everybody else do the same Confused

AllRoundGoodEgg · 28/03/2017 11:24

@Jooni I love Juniper and Briar!
Other names I like are Etta, Ottilie and similar but DH isn't keen.

My DD's names don't follow a 'theme' so I'm not too fussed about that.

One is popular - didn't realise quite how popular when we picked it
One is (a once uncommon) seasonal name that's been mentioned on here a lot lately
And the other is a longer classical but uncommon name that is shortened to match a children's explorer (not deliberately matched obviously)

@manicinsomniac DH loves the name ocean, it was his contender for DD3 but I vetoed it, Although it is growing on me

Love Rex- boys name sorted imo! IOts a "real" boys name that dates back decades so not some silly made up new name, but still sounds individual, strong but cheeky and is still just outside top 100 (not for much longer though I fear).

Luna, Cora, Clover, Silva also for girls to maybe consider.

CatsCantFlyFast · 29/03/2017 11:39

I heard clover the other day and thought it was lovey
