Baby son is a week old. We have two older sons with unusual but easily pronounced names. We would like our third boy to have a similar type of name.
DH favourite was Percy and mine was Rafe. We have vetoed these two as we each dislike each other's first choice.

This is our compromise list:
Asa - was joint favourite but now I'm having cold feet - DH is still keen. Is it too uncommon? Will baby spend life correcting its pronounciation? (Ace-uh).
Jago (Jay-go but dislike nn Jay)
Quentin (nn Quinn)
Sebastian - but bit too similar to our surname.

I have unusual name, which I like but dislike the fact that I have to continually spell it out to others. So want to save my son from difficult pronounciations/spellings.

Which name would you choose?
Or please suggest other names of same style.
Thank you.

I know what you mean. I think it's important that a name can be easily spelt and pronounced, but maybe want to avoid a name that's too well-known.

Asa -wouldn't know how to pronounce it, and it looks like a company name or something.

Jago - Just don't like this name - sounds like an alcopop. Also, it would definitely get shortened to Jay, so it you don't like Jay, maybe avoid this.

Quentin (nn Quinn) - Love this name. It's known enough that people would know how to say/spell it, but I can't see it ever getting too popular.

Sebastian- love this name too, but am put off because I keep hearing the name everywhere, it's getting too popular.

Other names I like that are not too common are:
Horatio
Lambertus
Oscar
Elliot
Leander
Raphael - my all time fave name which I can't use as it is too close to my surname :-(

Quinn!! (adore this as a unisex name)

Rex? Remy?

All good names though op Smile

BabyInWaiting · 26/03/2017 11:22

Thank you for more suggestions.
I love Corin - already used for older son!
Other son is similar to Tobias and we have a family dog called Asha so they're out.
Oh it's so hard!
Still love Quinn and Rafe/Raphael. DH not convinced.

Adore Jago.

Suggestions-wise - Stellan?

Redpramlady · 26/03/2017 14:15

Aw shame with rafe! Rafferty?

Cagliostro · 26/03/2017 16:21

What about Alden or Silas?

ChequeredPasta · 26/03/2017 18:45

Love ASA, Ezra and Otis!

Abraham?

Mrsknackered · 26/03/2017 18:48

Love Asa, very cool and easy. I know 2 grown Asa's who are great people too.
I really don't like Sebastian! I should love it there's no reason for me not too but hate it.

nightnurse66 · 26/03/2017 20:57

I love Zane my daughter went to school with him and he was a beautiful boy xxx

skincarejunkie · 26/03/2017 21:00

I love the name Rory . Congratulations!

kittylh · 26/03/2017 23:47

I know a Jago and he has never had the nn Jay. Suppose it depends on the kid. He might like Jay and eventually introduce himself as that, but I would just introduce as Jago whilst he's young and never say Jay.

Amazed that so many wouldn't know how to pronounce Asa. Thought it was an easy one... do love Asa, Ezra, Tobias, Sebastian, Hugo, Silas, Flynn.

Gummibears · 27/03/2017 12:52

Congratulations on your third son!

Love the names Quentin and Jago.

I don't like Asa, it's a girls name in Scandinavia.

grufallosfriend · 27/03/2017 13:05

I really like Quentin and Raphael! Congrats!

grufallosfriend · 27/03/2017 20:28

In terms of ease of spelling, I would probably choose Jago, Quentin or Sebastian. Asa could be misheard for Acer.
My favourite is Quentin though!

heateallthebuns · 27/03/2017 23:06

I only like rafe out of your choices. I like Seb but not Sebastian.

crapfatbanana · 27/03/2017 23:12

There are quite a few Jagos here in Cornwall (first and surnames) and I've heard to shortened to Jayg but not Jay. I like it a lot.

I like Quentin or Quinn.

Easa instead of Asa?

Joinourclub · 27/03/2017 23:16

Ah shame about Rafe.

I'd pronounce Asa as Asha , do like your dog.
I like Jago
Quentin I find a bit stuffy.
3 Sebastian's live on my small street.

What about:
Nathanial / Nate
Jonty
Rory
Rudy
Hector
Angus
Gabriel
Ambrose

pieceofpurplesky · 27/03/2017 23:21

I would just use Quinn.

YumMum49 · 27/03/2017 23:24

Congratulations!
My vote is Quinn!!
How about Albie?

YumMum49 · 27/03/2017 23:27

What did u go for????

Ikeameatballs · 27/03/2017 23:27

I like Quentin and Sebastian.

Other suggestions:

Fenton
Rudy
Hugo
Wilbur
Amos
Orlando
Guy
Augustus (Gus)

BabyInWaiting · 28/03/2017 17:40

YumMum49 Baby is still unnamed...
Think Asa is front runner as a name DH and I both like, unusual, and easy to spell.
Great suggestions. I still love Rafe and Quinn...also like Rudy and Rory. DH think Asa is the name however!

Jolyon?

DaisyBlameless · 28/03/2017 19:10

My friend's son is Rafe and gets called rape a lot by some of the meaner kids at school. He's really upset and wants change his name Angry

Asa is nice, I like Solomon too and things like Atticus and Remy.

grufallosfriend · 29/03/2017 15:40

What did you choose, op? If you like Asa, how about Arlo?
