Cassius is OK. Atticus seems to be the default 'unusual' name for people who can't think of any unusual names.

Gummibears · 07/03/2017 10:47

But Atticus isn't that 'unusual'. I know a baby and a teenager named Atticus. It's a classic name. I love it.

I wonder what sort of names the dislikers of Cassius and Atticus like Smile? Maybe they like more common popular names?

Personally I love both Cassius and Atticus and find them very classic and cool.

Gummibears · 07/03/2017 10:48

MrsMee, maybe they can think of others but still love Atticus?

reuset · 07/03/2017 10:50

Agree, MrsM

MrsMeeseeks · 07/03/2017 10:53

But Atticus isn't that 'unusual'.

I would consider a name outside of the top 500 fairly unusual, wouldn't you?

Gummibears · 07/03/2017 11:01

Ok, maybe it is 'unusual' in the sense of not being that widely used, but it is a well known old 'normal' name.

Nessie71 · 07/03/2017 11:05

I like cassius...Dont let people put you off...you may not like their childs name!!

ClaryIsTheBest · 07/03/2017 12:43

Cassius. Cassius is lovely :) Atticus... I'm sorry. I actually genuinely dislike it. Sorry.

I have Ignatius and Julius on my list.

ShuttyTown · 07/03/2017 12:52

Ignatius? Seriously!

ClaryIsTheBest · 07/03/2017 13:01

I'm hormonal.

And it's not my fault DH refused to tripple-barrel our name. Or give up one of his two names...
Which is why I got the naming rights and he simply has limited veto powers (we have an agreement where we hashed out the specifics).
Ignatius would be the last or middle name, btw. ;)

harderandharder2breathe · 07/03/2017 13:35

I know a baby Cassius

Not a fan of either personally but I prefer Cassius, maybe because i know a real life one

mum2be2boys · 07/03/2017 14:03

I prefer Cassius, I think it goes better with Otis.

I like Atticus, but just think of To Kill a Mockingbird book. I'm also not sure that you'd get Cass as a nickname for Atticus as the 'cus' sound at the end is different to the pronunciation of 'cats' if that makes sense? I think Atti or At would be more likely.

ToastVacuum · 07/03/2017 14:05

I prefer Cassius, as long as it's pronounced CASS-ee-us and not CASH-us.

Atticus is a bit faddy IMO and makes me think of dusty attics with spiders' webs and junk.

I've never met anyone with either name.

Caspar
Marius
Gabriel
Rufus
Lucius
Tobias
Sebastian
Jasper

SugarMiceInTheRain · 07/03/2017 14:28

Neither, sorry. Find them a bit too try-hard.
Other names upthread that some have suggested would go well with Otis. Also perhaps:
Lex
Arlo
Gabriel/ Gabe
Liev/Lev/ Lieven
Rory

FourKidsNotCrazyYet · 07/03/2017 14:42

Baby number four had Cassius as a shortlist until we realised our surname rhymes with Clay Blush

BasicBetty · 07/03/2017 14:46

I prefer Atticus.

Wimbles101 · 07/03/2017 15:00

Why?

user1474476735 · 07/03/2017 16:24

Wow! it's amazing how strongly people feel about other people's names, never knew it would cause such a reaction. I'm intrigued as to what all the atticus/Cassius haters' kids are called now Grin

Dreamingdreams · 07/03/2017 16:33

I don't like either name but out of the two I prefer Atticus. I just don't think Atticus sounds right with the name, Otis. I actually think Cassius sounds better with that name.

MrsMeeseeks · 07/03/2017 16:44

Why? (Not that I'm telling you: it would totally out me!) They're fairly 'Marmite' names, aren't they? I would expect them to be either loved or hated.

ClaryIsTheBest · 07/03/2017 17:11

user

names are often a very love it or hate it kind of thing, aren't they?

I'm intrigued as to what all the atticus/Cassius haters' kids are called now

Seeing as I really dislike (hate is a very strong word. But tbh, I actually do kind of hate the name) Atticus...

DD is Clarissa "scandi flower" "virtue name". I'm sure some people hate DD's names. But that's just how it is, I think. As long as a name isn't genuinely offensive...?

But Atticus is so... Idk. Popular and yet trying very hard to be unique...? Maybe my dislike for the name is irrational.

Wimbles101 · 07/03/2017 17:12

We do know someone called Atticus and all the boys at school call him platypus

Wimbles101 · 07/03/2017 17:13

Think it's worth thinking through the implications for the kid of having an usual name.

RedBugMug · 07/03/2017 17:48

the only problem I see with Cassius is that the name has 3 of the same letters. most sticker packs come with 2 stickers per letter...

OrlandoTheCat · 07/03/2017 17:54

Love Cassius
But hate Cass....
