What does everyone think of Emma as a baby girl's name? Nice for both young and older child?

A fine name

MrsJayy · 18/02/2017 22:35

Aww I like Emma i know of a few Emma was popular in both my dds years at School(now 24 &19) but is is such a nice name it never dates

MrsJayy · 18/02/2017 22:36

It isn't boring or dated imo it is a lovely name

SuperBeagle · 18/02/2017 22:37

I'd hardly consider Emma dated... it's still the most popular name in the US, for example. That's like saying that Charlotte, or Olivia, or some other extremely popular name is dated.

LexieLulu · 18/02/2017 23:18

I love it. But I love all of the 80's classic names that are rarely used. For example I have two friends who have called their daughters Hannah and Lauren. Both "dated" so to speak, but are classic lovely names.

I bet they will actually be more original now

MrsJayy · 18/02/2017 23:27

My dd has 1 of those dated names but it has not dated i still like it

DramaAlpaca · 18/02/2017 23:36

It's my favourite girls' name, but I didn't get to use it as I have boys.

MrsJayy · 18/02/2017 23:40

Maybe granddaughters drama start dropping hints Grin

ivechangedmyname123 · 18/02/2017 23:42

I have a niece Emma, beautiful girl, beautiful name xx

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 18/02/2017 23:45

Well it's not very interesting, is it?
How about as a shortening of something more glam, like Emmanuelle?

DramaAlpaca · 18/02/2017 23:48

Oh, I intend to MrsJayy Grin. Actually I wouldn't dare in case I end up being the subject of a MIL from hell thread on here!

MrsJayy · 18/02/2017 23:54

Just start dripping it drama I have girls and ive started dripping boys names i liked Grin

lottieandmia · 18/02/2017 23:56

Personally I don't like it. I agree with those who say it sounds 80s.

Hoolit · 19/02/2017 00:02

I love it, my dd12 is Emma and the only one in her year, there was another at primary but they went to different high schools. She gets Emma but also Em and Emmy Lou as middle name Louise.

MrsJayy · 19/02/2017 00:08

Emmy lou is lovely Emma is one of those names that rises and falls but is still a nice solid name. I have a louise so i am biased obviously but it is just a lovely name

LexieLulu · 19/02/2017 07:39

I know an Emma that's a Emma Lou, maybe it's a common pairing? X

snowone · 19/02/2017 07:52

Emma is beautiful - like other people have said it's timeless! Plus it's not overly used at the moment! Smile

EBearhug · 19/02/2017 07:53

I'm an Emma from the '70s, and about half the girls from school had Louise as a middle name, so inevitably, Emma Louise is a common pairing. It pleased my grandmother, however, as one of her favourite childhood books was about Emmy Lou. (Though Emmy Lou is definitely not my name.)

One thing which probably never crossed my parents' minds when they named me is that it's easy to pronounce, whatever your language background - as I work in a multinational and speak to people all round the world every day, this is definitely a positive. Other colleagues have had all sorts of weird interpretations of their names.

ExpectoPatronummmm · 19/02/2017 08:09

Emma is the most common name for my friends as I have 13 Emma's in my close circle.
Therefore I don't see it as a nice new name I see it the same as calling your kid Sharron or Tracy or Donna. Just YAK & boring

Aderyn2016 · 19/02/2017 08:24

I wouldn't give Louise as a middle name. I am a 70's kid and half my year group had it. It lacks imagination.

jennymac31 · 19/02/2017 08:29

I think Emma is a beautiful name and not at all boring or dated but I'm biased as my dd is an Emma and she was named after my dm, who's an Emmeline.

jennymac31 · 19/02/2017 08:30

Forgot to mention that my dd is the only Emma in her nursery and was usually the only Emma at any of the play groups we used to attend.

BonnesVacances · 19/02/2017 08:41

It's classless and doesn't smack of trying too hard with a name. You can't go wrong with it imo.

pickledsausage · 19/02/2017 08:43

My name is Emma and I love it!

KayTee87 · 19/02/2017 10:45

I like Emma.

What about

Emma Jane
Emma Rose
Emma Grace
Emma May
