What are you thoughts on Morven?

We have DS who is 2 called Murray, expecting baby #2 and trying to draw up a shortlist. Is Morven too obscure for a girl? DH likes it but I can't decide either way.

Murray and Morven - sounds cute.
I knew a Mirren - maybe too close to Murray with the double R sound.

TeenAndTween · 30/01/2017 13:33

Casualty / Holby City is what springs to my mind.

Two names starting with M. If you have #3 will they follow the trend or be the odd one out?

Personally I think it's a bit obscure.

MercyMyJewels · 30/01/2017 13:33

Lovely traditional name. I assume you are Scottish?

MrsS82 · 30/01/2017 13:34

I love Mirren but DH doesnt. I dont want cute matching names, possibly why I dont have strong feelings for Morven

JunosRevenge · 30/01/2017 13:35

Love it. There's a mountain called Morven in Scotland.

MrsS82 · 30/01/2017 13:36

Yes we are Scottish. DH has strong Scottish middle name but not first or surname although seems to favour Scottish names

I love the name but I don't know if I'd use it with Murray tbh.

EssentialHummus · 30/01/2017 13:37

I'm not keen but like Mirren.

MrsS82 · 30/01/2017 13:39

Suggestions for a none matchy sibling name to Murray are welcome 😀

Are you Scottish or have Scottish heritage?

Either way I think it's lovely. It's dreamy and gives me a mental image of beautiful faerie women floating through misty glens.

Ps: I'm a Scot so maybe I'm biased. Wink

TheLegendOfBeans · 30/01/2017 13:42

Just seen you've just said you're Scottish - d'oh!

GruochMacAlpin · 30/01/2017 13:42

I know several adult Morvens who are all lovely so I have great associations with the name.

It's very pretty. It would have been on our list except it doesn't go with our surname.

MrsS82 · 30/01/2017 13:43

Both born and bred in Scotland and live here, is there another way? 😁

Cagliostro · 30/01/2017 13:55

I've never heard it before but I like it! I assumed before opening the thread that it was a boy's name, it sounds a little masculine to my ear, not that it is an issue.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/01/2017 13:56

Love it 😊

Chatelherault · 30/01/2017 16:54

Love it.

I also love Iona, Isla, Jenny, Ailsa, etc

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/01/2017 17:07

Very nice OP.
Also like Isla.

OnceUponATimeInAVest · 30/01/2017 17:21

The book Morvern Callar popped into my head (yes I know, different spelling).

Googling tells me it is also the name of a rather beautiful mountain.

I like Morven.

I can see why your DH might not want Mirren - football, actors, etc.

ElornaElephant · 30/01/2017 17:25

I really like the name Morven. I'd never heard of it before but there's a character on Holby City with the name now and it suits her! As long as you don't mind that association I say go for it Smile - I like Morven and Murray together.

TheLivingAsheth · 30/01/2017 17:28

I also thought of Morvern Callar, it's one of my favourite books and I think it's a cool name! I hadn't heard of Morven but I like it, prefer Morvern though!

BowiesJumper · 30/01/2017 17:39

I really like it! I hadn't heard it before the character in holby but that's irrelevant. Lovely name and I think it's not too cutesy with Murray.

MrsS82 · 30/01/2017 18:08

Neither of us have ever watched Holby City so I dont really mind that. I've never heard of that book before today so again we dont have any connotations to link it too.

I really like Ailsa, not something i'd considered before today but combined with our surname not sure it works.

I think I might let Morven on the shortlist then, seems a 50/50 split who think its ok with Murray

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 30/01/2017 18:14

I think it's lovely. Nice with Murray, but matchy.

Catriona
Elsbeth
Morna
Shona

octonuddle · 30/01/2017 18:54

I like it! I know three ...All in thirties or early forties and all very nice (all Scottish). I think a young Morven would be lovely.

daveyfish · 30/01/2017 19:13

I have a 9 year old Morven so I'm a wee bit biased in thinking it's a lovely name. Also love Ailsa, Iona and Shona. Shona definitely overdue a comeback in popularity.
