Help my baby is 15 days and no name

Please help I am going roundnin circles and just need an outsiders view!... I have just had a baby boy and we called him Barney when he was growing inside as it was a name my husband always wanted for my first little one but I didn't like it!! Then when he was born everyone was so negitive my DH decided we couldn't actually call him Barnaby so we are totally stuck :( nothing else suits and we are desperate now for a name.. I like Joshua and Theo but DH not keen :(

I love Barnaby/Barney but other names which I think have a similar sound or feel are:
Sam
Felix
Oscar
Charlie
(I also really like Theo)

I love Barney too. Sorry can't suggest any other names but I'd stick with your original.

Sorry I don't like barney at all, it seems like a name for a cartoon character

A couple of names on that list are boys' names I really like but can't use because they create an unfortunate sound when run together with the surname!

Barney and Barnaby are nice names, don't listen to anyone else, you choose a name you like! If you don't like it, Oscar is nice, I also like Thomas/Tom.

I like Barney! You can't please everyone so I agree, if you like it you should go with it.

If not, how about Jacob or Isaac? I also like Charlie.

Have you decided on a middle name?

Congratulations, OP. Honestly, though, why listen to anyone else's opinions on your name? Do you always like their taste in wallpaper/food/dress? Probably not,so why would you give a monkey's what they think of your son's name? Barnaby is lovely. As is Oscar or Theo.

None of our son's grandparents' liked his name at all (never said so, but it was always going to be the case with mine that if we called him anything that was remotely unusual - in the sense of not Jack or Sam - they would find it 'conspicuous' and attention-seeking), but we certainly never considered changing it. This wasn't a Yougov survey!

Barnaby is just lovely!! But Toby has a similar tone if you're not sure. Congratulations on your new baby!!

I agree with pp that you should choose a name that you like. Others will soon forget that they didn't like the name once they spend time with your little boy.

My favourite was always Barney. We also liked William, Elliot, Laurence and Wilbur (I know I know - lucky for the kids I have two girls!)

I prefer Barnaby over Barney, but at this point I would probably name the kid anything just to have done with it! ;)

My DD was 3 days old before we settled on a name and that was stressful enough! I hope you settle on something soon.

I love Barney and know a lovely 12 year old Barney who likes his name. But if you don't like it and your husband doesn't like your favourites you'll have to compromise on a one you both like but don't 'love'.

Don't worry that he's 15 days old - DS2 was two weeks before we named him and DS3 we really, really struggled and went to the registry office with our just-made, final decision when he was 5 weeks and 6 days. The grandparents were aghast, our friends thought we were hilarious and baby would never be named but he is 4.5 yrs now and it has made not one jot of difference that he was nameless for his first few weeks!!

Don't name him in a rush and don't not name him because some people disapprove!! It's none of their business and it's not like you called him Adolf or something. I feel bad for you, it's not nice that others have ventured opinions

Go with your initial instinct and don't ask opinions in RL. Announce his name with confidence and that's that. Brush any negative comments aside and smile. Everyone will grow to love it as he grows to fit it. No name will please everyone so concentrate on what you both love and go for that. Good luck OP and congratulations!

Do you like the name Barnaby now OP? You mention in your first post that it was DH's choice but you weren't keen?

If you do both agree on it now, then please use it. Everybody else has had their go at baby naming (or will get their go at some point) - this is yours.

Other similar names might be;

Harvey
Ben(jamin) - possibly Benny or Benjy as a nn
Bobby
Edward (Teddy)

Barnaby is great, you made the classic mistake of asking other people's opinions, if you'd just introduced your gorgeous baby as Barnaby or Barney, everyone would have probably told you if was lovely. It is hard though once you've let them sew the seeds of doubt in your head.
I know an adult Barney, it's a excellent name and not too over-used either.
