Please help I am going roundnin circles and just need an outsiders view!... I have just had a baby boy and we called him Barney when he was growing inside as it was a name my husband always wanted for my first little one but I didn't like it!! Then when he was born everyone was so negitive my DH decided we couldn't actually call him Barnaby so we are totally stuck :( nothing else suits and we are desperate now for a name.. I like Joshua and Theo but DH not keen :(

I love the name Barnaby! I taught one once who went by the nickname Beanie. Everyone called him Beanie (including his teachers!).

If you love the name, don't let others put you off. Easier said than done though I know.

Good luck :-)

Fantastic name when we named our boy everyone was a bit unimpressed however they now say they love his name and are glad we went with something classic and unusual.

Barnaby definitely fits as a classic yet unusual name. Go for it and be brave you'll be glad you were when he is in a school class with 4 Olivers

Don't mind what others say. Just make sure you like the name. Children grow into their name and as the family and friends grow to love the child, they will love the child's name. My best friend named her son Darwin. I said I didn't like the name and everyone went on that the child would be teased. Five years later everyone loves Darwin, and his name, and we couldn't imagine him with any other name.

I know several Barney and Barnabys, lovely names. If your DH has always wanted it and you like it I'd go with it. My DM hated my dds name when she was born, probably still does, but we love it and dd loves it so I don't really care what other people think.

spike is right, never ask for people's opinions, it always goes badly!

But Barnaby nn Barney is great!

I think Barney/Barnaby is cool tbh.

Barney is lovely. Your baby so your choice. Not open for discussion with relatives. Go for it xx

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/01/2017 10:07

Have you made a decision yet OP ? 😀

Kelsey28 · 22/01/2017 15:14

Please call him barney. I love that name so much!

Barnaby/Barney is gorgeous. Classic name, suits a baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult.

With greatest respect OP, if you listened to negative opinions others hold about your chosen name, your child might remain nameless. Stick with a name you love. That's all that matters.

Congratulations on your new squishy baby boy Flowers

barney makes me think of a purple dinosaur and barnaby makes me think of someone desperately trying to be posh when they aren't.

If you want a posh name, try these ;)

Barnaby is an ace name I would stick with that! My mum disliked both my kids names at first and now raves about them! We got lots of stick about our dc1 name (Jonah) people kept saying it was bad luck and rhyming it with stuff but we just ignored them and stuck with what we liked. No one says anything now! I do love Theo though and will be having it for my dc3 if it's a boy x

Joeybee · 22/01/2017 23:04

All the ones you've listed sound great. Theo is fantastic too as a nn for Theodore.
