Refreshingly traditional in this age of made up names!

BikeRunSki · 22/01/2017 09:58

My teenage nephew is a Matthew (or MatPat due to his middle name). He is an extremely cool, interesting and funny chap.

therootoftheroot · 22/01/2017 11:24

if ANY of you think that people who work with children don't comment on children's names privately among themselves, you are seriously mistaken. Dolwar said nothing wrong-just stated a fact.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 22/01/2017 11:25

classic not boring

pilates · 22/01/2017 11:33

Agree classic and not boring.

It's a biblical name; Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. It can't really 'date'. And you'll never have to worry that it was trendy five years ago and now it's a bit rubbish (like all the Jaden/Aiden/Hayden/Braydens, or even the Arthur/Stanley/Alfies...) There will always be boys/men named Matthew!

RortyCrankle · 22/01/2017 14:56

It's ok ish but Marcus is better

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/01/2017 15:20

It's a bit boring but boring can be okay. At least it's not Monty or Jonty.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2017 15:28

no, it's lovely

mumhum · 22/01/2017 16:00

Not boring

Aimnmatt · 22/01/2017 18:34

I have a Matthew so I'm obviously going to say I love it.
He's 9 but I chose his name when I was little (5) and stuck with it, so could be seen as a little dated. I feel it's a strong name that is cute for a baby, cool for a teenager and smart for a man.

Joeybee · 22/01/2017 23:02

It is a little dated maybe - but it's a nice name, so if you like it you should go for it. Maybe if you were worried it is a bit boring, you could go with Mathias' instead?

Joeybee · 22/01/2017 23:03

Or Matteo maybe.

ifcatscouldtalk · 22/01/2017 23:20

If you love it, go for it. Despite not being religious I always felt drawn to the biblical names. For me there is something solid and timeless that I really like. Fwiw I have seen my daughter's names described as boring and meh but it doesn't matter, you'll never get a 100% thumbs up on any name.

colouringinagain · 22/01/2017 23:22

No!!!! Matthew is gorgeous!

Matt55 · 18/05/2019 10:21

I am a Matt and I hate the name. It's equivalent to the taste of pasta when you forget to add salt - it's food but it has no flavour. I am currently working with lawyers from the NSPCC to make naming your child 'Matthew' reclassified as child abuse. Does anybody have any suggestions for something a little less boring?

Proseccofuelled · 18/05/2019 10:29

It is a VERY dated name - 80s / 90s so will be a middle aged name when they’re still at school

Is Matthew boring??
Proseccofuelled · 18/05/2019 10:35

I have no idea why people think biblical names are immune from the impact of fashion / trends - Deborah isn’t dated? Simon? Matthew is an 80s / 90s name so it won’t sound dated until those men are middle aged.

I wouldn’t rule it out over that though it’s a perfectly nice name

Really? I'm not keen on Matt either but that's pretty extreme!

sparklysunflower · 18/05/2019 10:43

It's actually the eew sound at the end that I dislike.

Bigfanofcheese · 18/05/2019 10:53

I like 'Matt', it's a solid, classic blokey name. And wasn't he a tax collector in the bible? Could be an omen for a successful career in finance!

MikeUniformMike · 18/05/2019 12:28

It's classic, not boring. Matteo is likely to date and is a bit naff if you are not Italian.

Saharasunset · 18/05/2019 13:33

Beyond boring

How about Matteo or Matthias?

BBQwhoareyou · 18/05/2019 14:09

I love the name Matthew
