I have a Matthew, so I am biased but he is 24 so maybe dated now

pregnantat50 · 16/01/2017 22:37

and my Matt is definitely not boring :) that's him giving up sugar

therootoftheroot · 16/01/2017 22:39

Strong classic name.
I have a Matthew.
He has three friends who are also called Matthew. Tall Matt, short Matt , Matt j etc so not out of date.

Nospringflower · 16/01/2017 22:43

Like it and love the name Matt.

Autumnsweater · 17/01/2017 07:29

I have told my family that I'm going to choose a boring name so, whilst yes it is, I don't see that as a bad thing Grin

I don't think there'll be more than one Matthew in his class whereas there will be loads of kids with the trendy/'unique' name! Sounds dependable, classic, I like the shortenings.

TheNaze73 · 17/01/2017 07:30

Dated & boring

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/01/2017 10:36

Lovely name !

TeshiB · 17/01/2017 10:46

How about Matthias

PunkrockerGirl · 17/01/2017 20:46

Op wanted opinions on Matthew..
She didn't ask for alternatives.
How about Matthias? No that's not what the OP asked.
The Naze I'm in need of a good laugh tonight, enlighten me with your non dated and non boring names.

eachtigertires · 18/01/2017 15:15

I like it. I don't think it's dated at all.

Corialanusburt · 18/01/2017 15:26

Pleasant, classic but very very boring.

ItsThatBeverleyMacca · 18/01/2017 15:30

I love it, both Matthew and Matt. I think it works at all ages too.

FrozeninSummer · 20/01/2017 03:03

I don't see it as dated -it's been around for years. It's not particularly 'in' at the moment, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

IMO it's a solid classic name. It's not the most adventurous but sometimes playing it safe is the best bet as it means you won't regret your decision 20 years down the line unlike some other names that may have been in fashion at the time but 10 years on sound ridiculous.

Popskipiekin · 20/01/2017 04:15

I like it. I would say it's "safe" rather than boring. Biblical names are always nice and not so common now. My cousin is Matthew and his family call him Picchu which I think is cute Smile

fleurdelacourt · 20/01/2017 13:30

horses for courses - all the people who think it's dull/boring/beige probably have sons called Quentin!!

Pipilangstrumpf · 20/01/2017 14:28

fleur, I actually do have son called Quentin, but I also like Matthew Smile. They're both solid classic names imo.

PinxTheTinxMinx · 20/01/2017 14:31

No, not at all! All the Matthew's/Matt's I know are gorgeous.
Especially my own Wink

Raines100 · 20/01/2017 14:55

Names have several purposes, but I don't think being exciting is one of them. No name is exciting for multiple generations. The freshest sounding names of today will be the Sharon/Tracey/Keith/Kevin names of tomorrow. Traditional names like Matthew are the ones that don't date and cross classes and generations.

twilightcafe · 20/01/2017 14:59

Matthew is a good, solid, classic name that won't date. It's not over-used and isn't saddled with overly negative connotations.

buttercup54321 · 20/01/2017 20:54

Lovely name. Great choice xx

badg3r · 21/01/2017 17:53

I love Matthew and Matt as nn. All the Matts I know are really lovely people though, so maybe I'm biased! Would love to use it for next DC if a boy but already too many (grown up) ones in the family.

Dolwar · 21/01/2017 18:07

It's a good solid NORMAL name that will NEVER have anyone laughing at and he will never feel silly for being called Matthew (compared to some of the suggestions on here).

I work with children and trust me when a child comes in with an 'unusual' name it IS commented on and we DO scoff at the more stupid or inventive ones.

Nanananananagigglebiz · 21/01/2017 18:23

Who cares whether it is in at the moment. I just knew i wanted to call my little boy Matthew. It's traditional and biblical also. Not boring at all

Pipilangstrumpf · 22/01/2017 07:40

Dolwar, you work with children and laugh at their names?Shock

I wonder what names are so 'stupid' and laughworthy in your opinion?

WaitrosePigeon · 22/01/2017 09:52

Dolwar, I'm embarrassed for you.
