Leonie and Kylie

These seem to be regarded as "stereotypical" Australian names. In fact, I would have been named Kylie had Mum had a girl.

Thoughts on Leonie and Kylie as names?

Kylie sounds very 1990s. Leonie is much classier

I love Leonie, I'm biased though as its my DDs name :) It doesn't have the e on the end though. I chose it because of the reference to Lioness being the hunter and strong etc,

Dd is the only Leoni in her year group of 200 odd kids, but it seems to be getting more popular and there's two in my nieces reception class of 30.

Leonie is cute. Kylie is umm, not so good.

I think they sound nice together.

I was leaning towards Leonie with my second pregnancy. DP wasn't keen at all.

I prefer Leonie to Kylie, always have, but like both. I knew someone who was very keen on the name Kylie but at the last minute went with Michaela instead, (utterly irrelevant, sorry!).
What does your DP reckon?

I prefer Léonie because Devil's Cub is one of my favourite books.

It has zero Aussie associations for me.

Kylie sounds more Australian to me. The only people I know called Leonie are Dutch/German, apparently it's quite a popular name in those countries. I think it is a lovely!

Leonie is nicer than Kylie

Leonie is much better and very popular in Germany where I used to live.
I think that Kylie Jenner has spoiled the name for future Kylies. To someone my age in the UK it sounds very dated as it makes us think of Kylie Minogue (1980s/1990s). By dated, I mean names that were popular at that time but not popular now so Nicola, Gemma, Tracey, Joanna.

Leonie is very common in the North West where I know many teenaged Leonie's and Leoni's. I still like it as a name though. Kylie's awful

Kylie is bloody awful. I cannot imagine it making a comeback here in Aus anytime soon. (Will probably be top baby name in 2072 )

I don't think of Leonie as particularly Australian at all. I also think it's way nicer than Kylie!

Leonie is nice but I find Kylie very dated and not in a good way.

I can't see any Australian thinking Leonie is a lovely name now. It's just so common among that age group, and isn't particularly associated with class.

Kylie is straight up awful.

I like Leonie as all the (Aussie) Leonies I have met have been lovely! I don't think it's used much over here.

I really like Leonie. The name was extremely common in Switzerland in the 80ies/90ies.

There are admittedly other L-names I prefer. Leandra, Leontine, Lyra, Laila, Lydia.... (not that you asked, oops... ) but Leonie is really lovely :)!

Out if interest is it pronounced Lee- oh-nee or Lay-oh-nee? I like the name.

Any recovery Kylie was making from its 1980s naffness has been dealt a body blow by the Kardashian sister. The Washington correspondent on the Channel 4 news is a Kylie, her name always seems at odds with the job she does. Not that it's held her back!

I love Léonie. I do like the name Kylie but it reminds me overwhelmingly of Kylie Minogue (who I adored as a child and still have a soft spot for) to the extent that I'm not sure I could get past it as someone else's name; I've never met a Kylie although I appreciate it's a popular name in Australia.
