Would you choose Vivienne, Poppy or Alice?

We have a while to go yet and don't know if we're having a DD or DS but we're starting to think seriously about names.

Vivienne is my absolute favourite name and has been for years but sadly DH isn't keen. His favourite is Poppy which I don't hate, but it is much more popular than I would like (though it does seem to have peaked). Our compromise name is Alice and I would be happy with that, but I still hope to convince him that Vivienne is a beautiful name; not ugly and old fashioned!!

Which of the three is your favourite?

I love Vivienne.
Alice is okay, a popular classic.
I don't dislike Poppy but if you shout it around here you'll get knocked down by Labradors.

Vivienne & Alice are both gorgeous.

Poppy is sweet, I do like it and I love Alice, but Vivienne is peerless.

The first and last are lovely. Poppy is over done in the extreme and is screeched across our local park at designer something-poo puppies.

I think you should scrap any names that either of you hate, nobody wants to dislike their child's name.

I'd choose Alice.

I'd scrap Poppy and Vivienne as they can't be agreed upon and I think parents should both like (preferably love, but you'll grow to love your child's name) the name chosen.

You could try starting a thread titled If I like Vivienne what else would I like...
You might get some good suggestions.

Love Vivienne. Def my favourite and would never consider it old-fashioned.

I really don't like Poppy I'm afraid. I'm not sure why as I like other flower names.

Alice by a long shot. Vivienne is nice but not really to my taste.

Poppy is a name for a King Charles spaniel. YY to 'cutesy and twee'. You are naming a person who will one day be 57.

Would a different spelling be more acceptable? I have a Vivian, nn Vivi, although I'm sure she'll choose Viv when she's older! Vivienne was a bit fussy for me

Vivienne is a beautiful name but I dislike the nn Viv. Vivy/Vivi is sweet though.

I really liked the name Poppy though like yourself it's popularity put me off and I couldn't put in on my list as it's the name of MILs dog

Alice is OK.

Vivienne would be my pick if you could avoid Viv as a nn

Poppy just makes me think Sloppy, Ploppy, Poopy, that kind of thing.

Poppy is a flimsy name in my view - inoffensive and probably cute on a small girl. Love the Labradors bounding over comment above . Alice is lovely but popular. Vivienne is unusual and elegant. I love the spelling Vivien as in Leigh.

Poppy is a very popular animals/pets name here so that would put me off using it for a child.
Vivienne just doesnt work for me personally

Would the Vivien spelling be more acceptable to your DH?
I prefer it - probably because of Vivien Leigh.
Either way, Vivienne (or Vivien) is my favourite from your list.

I love Vivienne too! Alice is ok. Don't like Poppy at all.
