Kayley or Olivia

DP and I have narrowed it down to these 2. Can I have some opinions please?

Olivia definitely.

Really don't like Kayley so Olivia by default.

Olivia is classic and classy but very popular. Kayley is a lot less common, but feels very eighties and a bit chavvy. Falls in the Keeley/Kayleigh/Madison/jade bracket somehow?

I think Kayley sounds really 80s and harsh.

Kayley sounds rather more dated, in my opinion. I went to school with hundreds of them in the 80s...and you'll probably find people spell it every which way, which is what happened to all the Kaylee/ Kayley/ Kayleigh/ Caleys I knew. I find it harder to imagine on older people too - I think it works for a baby (and up to a teenager), but I think of it as a "younger" name, rather than one that will go well through to pensioner years.

Also Olivia has better nickname/shortenings.

But if you love Kayley, go for it :) it's not like you'd have given her a terrible name!

I'm a self confessed pretentious name lover, however, I've never understood the appeal of Olivia or why it is so incredibly popular.

I would choose Kayley (prefer that spelling) as I think it's nicer but have you considered Kayla or Kaia? (Ky-a/Kay-a whatever you prefer!) - similar but perhaps not so 80s.

Another vote for Olivia - lovely, classic, timeless name.

As other people have said, Kayley sounds very 80s. I think it looks misspelt to me because I expect to see Kayleigh as in the Marillion song.

It's better than Kaylee though, which just looks silly IMO.

I'd choose Kayley - Olivia is sooooooo common! It is quite 80s, but I think it's very sweet and quite refreshing to hear.

Even though one is rather old, I would not discard based on that reason alone. Both names are lovely, think about how you would prefer to call your child, i.e. short names and nicknames. It often helps to think about such minor details when you are trying to choose between 2 names.

all of the other 9million Olivia's wandering round have no issues with their name, it's not exactly rare/comment worthy.

Kayley is really not very nice, least of all because it doesn't look like it's spelled correctly.

What else do you like?

Kayley - never going to find anything with it spelt like that, we struggle with it spelt with leigh at the end!
