I love the name for DD2 but DH isn't quite sold on it. Opinions?

I know a baby Lyra and never think of liar or lycra. Hmm I always think what a beautiful name.

1horatio · 20/12/2016 10:45

I prefer Lyra to Lilah.

Holding · 20/12/2016 13:25

I love both Lyra and Lilah, but I don't like Luna. How about Lena?

happypotamus · 20/12/2016 16:54

My DD2 is called Lyra, and her older sister also has a very unusual name. No one has ever said anything about liar or lycra to us though maybe they think it and keep their opinions to themselves. We are very happy with the name. A few people have asked us if we named her after Lyra from Northern Lights.

Sorry to jump on this thread! But how popular is Lyra now? It's on my list but I'm not keen if like one poster said there is 4 under 3 she knows! I wonder why this name has suddenly become popular as the books at are not new!

Thank you 👍🏻

babymouse · 21/12/2016 01:29

Lyra is cool. Xmas Smile

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 21/12/2016 03:05

I love it. Paired with Astrid it sounds very pretty.

But Lilah may be a good compromise with your Dh?

GoofyTheHero · 21/12/2016 07:05

MilkybarMars that was me! Yes I know 4 under 3. In fact, all born around 2 years ago. The ones I know all live in different parts of the country though, so it's not like they're all at the same baby group, and the parents don't know each other.

MarjorySunshineDust · 21/12/2016 09:03

It's funny, I work with children and haven't come across a single Lyra here! It was ranked 222nd last year and has been declining over recent years so wouldn't consider it popular generally!
I would have said Luna was quite unusual but know 3 little ones in our small town.

I asked DH what he thought of Lilah/Lara and got a lacklustre response, adding that Lara made him think of Tomb Raider! I much prefer Lyra to the alternatives. Last time he was hugely set on Astrid, more so than me initially. Finding it a bit tedious this time as he doesn't immediately love anything I suggest but hasn't come up with much else. Well, we still have a few weeks for me to convince him to decide!

Lyra is lovely. I must have a different brain to most of you, doesn't make me think of liar or Lycra at all!

IAmAPaleontologist · 21/12/2016 09:47

Lyra is lovely, the Pullman connection is a bonus his Lyra is a fantastic character. For me the Harry Potter thing is too enduring for Luna. It may die down but it may not whereas the Pullman books are solid, enduring books that will become classic must reads but don't have the media presence of Harry Potter. I think astrid and Lyra make a lovely pair.

1horatio · 21/12/2016 10:40

Marjorie

Well, Tomb Raider isn't a bad association at all, imo :)

However, I also prefer Lyra. Gorgeous name.

Nonameyet1 · 21/12/2016 11:20

Love Lyra!

GoofyTheHero · 21/12/2016 11:25

One is in Bath, one in Derbyshire, one in Manchester and one in the West Midlands!

GoodQueenWenchEatsLess · 22/12/2016 08:20

I agree with missisbee - Lyra doesn't make me think of liar or Lycra at all! It's a great name and goes perfectly with Astrid (more so than any of the alternatives that have been suggested)

yaela123 · 22/12/2016 16:01

I think it's really nice! Feminine but not too overly girly.
It's like the northern lights character. I used to have a friend called Lyra who was really lovely so i guess that helps me like it Smile

JunebabyT · 23/12/2016 17:21

It's ok but I much prefer Lara or Lila.

WineCheeseSleep · 24/12/2016 19:48

I really like it! I thought of Lycra after thinking about it for a minute but that wouldn't put me off - all names can be made to sound like something else somehow.

Xmasbaby11 · 24/12/2016 19:56

I like lyra a lot. I know two little girls with the name and it's lovely.

MarjorySunshineDust · 31/12/2016 14:22

Well it looks like we have agreed on Lyra! Just need a middle name now, no idea where to start really as we don't have any special family names etc to use.

Love Lyra. Was so very close to using it but then bottled it due to Liar and it's a much loved middle name instead.

Rockmegently · 31/12/2016 14:29

Lyra Grace rolls off the tongue 😀
