I love the name for DD2 but DH isn't quite sold on it. Opinions?

Lyra is lovely. I also really like Lois if we're talking L names.

Patriciathestripper1 · 19/12/2016 20:05

Lyra, Lyra, pants on fire! sorry

allthatnonsense · 19/12/2016 20:05

Gorgeous name and the characters is a great role model.

SienaSun · 19/12/2016 20:11

I love the name Lyra and agree the character from the books is a good role model. It's also a constellation I think?
It's nice to hear strong names for girls, especially with all the weak drippy-dolly-daisy-poppy-molly-type names every little girl is called at the moment.

tooclosetocall · 19/12/2016 20:17

I don't like it. The name looks pretty but sounds meh and it makes me think children might team it with Liar. Kids being kids.

SeashellHoarder · 19/12/2016 21:24

I like it a lot. But it does remind me of the northern lights book.

I prefer Lydia and would have used it if it would go with our surname.

Alternatively you could continue the Scandinavian theme and choose Freya, Heidi, Erika, Linnea or similar?

1horatio · 19/12/2016 21:33

How is Heidi Scandinavian?

But yes, there are so many awesome scandi names, totally agree with you.

Pluto30 · 19/12/2016 21:39

Freya's a good suggestion if you want to continue the Scandi theme, and it's somewhat similar to Lyra in the number of syllables/soft sound/use of the y.

DramaAlpaca · 19/12/2016 21:41

I really love Lyra & it sounds good with Astrid.

Coey2016 · 19/12/2016 21:41

I like Lydia and Lyra, I think they are both pretty and strong. I'm less keen on Luna.

notangelinajolie · 19/12/2016 21:46

Lyra sounds too much like lycra to me. Love Leah or Lara?

Lindy2 · 19/12/2016 21:48

I like it. I know one as well. I think it means "the brightest star" which I also like.

RedStripeIassie · 19/12/2016 21:52

It's lovely but it does make me think of Lycra at first.

Twozealotmorethan1 · 19/12/2016 21:56

Makes me think of Lycra...

I really like Freya though.

Used to like Astrid a lot but the US version of The Office ruined it for me.... (Ass-turd!)

dementedma · 19/12/2016 21:56

I like Lyra.
Luna is a bit overdone at the moment.

WaitrosePigeon · 19/12/2016 21:57

Lycra. Cyclists. Rage.

WaitrosePigeon · 19/12/2016 21:57

Liar

Crispbutty · 19/12/2016 21:58

I like Lydia or leila

Mrscog · 19/12/2016 22:01

Love it, I wanted it for DC2 but DH didn't, we settled on Lara but then we turned out to need another DS name after all the angst!

NannyR · 19/12/2016 22:02

I don't know if it's an accent thing, but I don't find Lyra particularly comfortable easy to say. It doesn't roll off the tongue the same way that similar names like Lyla or Lara do.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/12/2016 23:37

I like it, though agree with pp that something about it makes it less easy to say than Lara/Lyla.

Jooni · 20/12/2016 08:30

Lyra is lovely, and I really like Luna too (slightly prefer Luna I think). And Astrid is fab!

How about Liv if you like L names? I love Liv :)

SorenaJ · 20/12/2016 09:11

Love Lyra!

MarjorySunshineDust · 20/12/2016 09:21

I do like Lana! We know a little girl with that name.

I like Freya but not keen on sticking to a scandi theme really and there are quite a few little Freya's here. I like that Astrid is unusual but not made up/difficult to spell etc. Would like similar for dd2!
two - The Office thing nearly put me off too when I was pregnant but it hasn't crossed my mind since and don't suppose it will mean anything to her peers!

Still really keen on Lyra despite the potential liar thing, I don't want to set dd up for teasing but I think kids will always find something! I do like Lilah as well, but same teasing potential?
Will have to see if DH brings anything to the table other than a cartoon vampire from Adventure Time Hmm
