Emmeline Heather, Brontë Charlotte or Adair Lily

Am new to mumsnet but have found website after searching desperately for some BRITISH mummy advice so expect to be inundated with threads.

Was a teen mother. Had twins Cole Andrew and Harper Allison. Still thrilled with their names 15yrs on! Am married to their dad so we were a success story as their birth in some ways brought us closer together. Smile
We also have two other children, Louis Dominic & Grant Brendan.

I had my gorgeous fifth child a week ago, a girl!!
Her name is as of yet undecided.
Emmeline Heather is lovely and Emmeline Pankhurst was awesome. Heather is soft and balances it out. But does it go with Harper?
Brontë Charlotte is stunnning and I love the literary connection with her sister. Do I spell it Bronte or Brontë? Is Brontë Charlotte too much and would Brontë Emmeline or Brontë Lily be nicer?
Adair Lily goes well with Harper but has no real meaning for me. Does that matter?

Please pick your favourite and write why?

I know two Heathers who aren't very nice unfortunately but I also know a Brontë, she's funny, witty, wonderful, & charming amongst many other things. So I'd choose that.

I agree that Bronte is a lovely name but I think it would be a bit much with Charlotte.

I wouldn't worry about Heather being too similar to Harper as it will be her middle name.

MabelFurball · 30/11/2016 16:00

I find them all a bit convoluted TBH.

Secretspillernamechange · 30/11/2016 16:08

If you're going to choose Bronte, how about going for Emily or Anne as middle names rather than Charlotte? Then you still get the literary connection but it's slightly less obvious.

I don't like Adair, but Emmeline is pretty.

ManicPixieDream · 30/11/2016 16:10

Bronte is the best name out of the ones you like. Bronte Emmeline gets my vote and goes well with your other children's names. Do you use their middle names?

PoldarksBreeches · 30/11/2016 16:11

Bronze with charlotte is a huge no and Adair is...meh really
I really like emmeline and heather

CoreyTaylorsMask · 30/11/2016 16:17

Bronte Emmeline is lovely. My youngest DD has Bronte as a middle name, she loves it and is planning to use it as her first name when she is older.

EverySongbirdSays · 30/11/2016 16:42

I do like Bronte a lot and think it would/could go with Emmeline but I wouldn't put it with Emily, Anne, or Charlotte

Heather is lovely.

Heather Bronte? Bronte Heather?

No to both Adair and Lily

crayfish · 30/11/2016 16:45

I don'y think you can call her Bronte Charlotte - it's just too contrived. I don't like Adair at all wither. Emmeline is lovely though and I like Heather too.

Libby34 · 30/11/2016 17:06

I love the name Bronte and think it sounds ok with Charlotte!

Pidlan · 30/11/2016 17:10

Brontë is lovely! I would go for Brontë Catherine or if I was brave, Brontë Eyre (actually I wouldn't be brave enough. But still love it.)

Maria was also a Brontë family name... Bronte Maria?

Heatherbell1978 · 30/11/2016 17:11

Adair is a Scottish boys name so no to that. Emmeline Pankhurst sounds a lot like Emily Pankhurst, is that deliberate? I quite like Bronte but they're all very 'big' names to me to be honest.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 30/11/2016 17:17

Emmeline Charlotte or Emmeline Lily.

Adair sounds 'boy's name' to me. I think I would prob assume Bronte was a boy, too... obviously I am aware of the literary connection but I'd assume someone wanting to call a daughter after the Brontes would use Charlotte, or Emily, or Anne.

Sophronia · 30/11/2016 17:18

I like Emmeline Heather. Not keen on the other two.

Jadamba · 30/11/2016 18:33

Ahh but Bronte honours all the sisters! Harper and Bronte.

Cole, Harper, Louis, Grant and Bronte.

I think it's quite nice sounding.

I don't want to rain on your parade as I think out there names like Bronte are fine, and the sound Bron-tay is pretty, but she will be forever faffing about with the umlaut or whatever it's called. And possibly known as Bronte-Saurus. Which is quite sweet actually. But definitely not Bronte Charlotte, people will forever be getting it the wrong way round.

I like Emmeline Lily best.

raviolidreaming · 30/11/2016 19:08

Bronte Emmeline gets my vote!

Holding · 30/11/2016 19:12

Bronte is nice but think it will be 'Bronty' more often than not.
I don't personally like Emmeline but it's very inoffensive.
For some reason I love Adair - I think it's really cool without being too out there. That would be my pick.

florascotianew · 30/11/2016 19:37

Adair is a boy's name. Originally a surname, it's been used as a male name for centuries.

For eg en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adair_Turner,_Baron_Turner_of_Ecchinswell

There is the famous old Irish/Scottish song 'Robin Adair', also well-known for centuries - the singer is very definitely female, lamenting her lost male love. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Adair

Emmeline, Heather, Lily, Charlotte are all very good names for girls.

Bronte is a polite, later version of the original surname 'O Pronntaigh' or (anglicised) 'Prunty'. Fine as a surname, but IMHO, not a first name for a girl.

user1472334322 · 30/11/2016 19:49

Congratulations on your little girl! I think Bronte works really well with your other children's names. I agree with pp Bronte Catherine/Katherine is lovely. I'm not sure Charlotte, Anne or Emily sound quite right, but only for me because I'm used to hearing it the other way round! Good luck choosing.

Pluto30 · 30/11/2016 20:36

Lily Charlotte or Lily Emmeline.

I don't like any of the first names on your list, and Adair is a male name.

Pluto30 · 30/11/2016 20:37

Oh and please don't name your child Bronte Charlotte. It'd be like me naming my child Harper or Annabel when my last name is Lee. Naff.

IneedAqueenMortificadoNickname · 30/11/2016 20:41

I love the name Emmeline and hope I'll be able to persuade dp to use it if we have a dd.

But I think Bronte goes really nicely with your other names. But not with Charlotte as a middle name. Bronte Catherine is nice as pps have said

WyfOfBathe · 30/11/2016 20:42

It'd be like me naming my child Harper or Annabel when my last name is Lee. Naff.
I know an Annabel Lee (although spelt slightly differently) and I'd never made the connection [gasp]

I like Bronte, but maybe better as a middle name because some people wont know how to spell/pronounce it. Maybe Lily Bronte or Emmeline Bronte?

WuTangFlan · 30/11/2016 20:42

Adair reminds me of "Mad Dog" Adair - he's 53 and still pops up on the news, e.g. his son's death was in the news in September,
