Am new to mumsnet but have found website after searching desperately for some BRITISH mummy advice so expect to be inundated with threads.

Was a teen mother. Had twins Cole Andrew and Harper Allison. Still thrilled with their names 15yrs on! Am married to their dad so we were a success story as their birth in some ways brought us closer together. Smile
We also have two other children, Louis Dominic & Grant Brendan.

I had my gorgeous fifth child a week ago, a girl!!
Her name is as of yet undecided.
Emmeline Heather is lovely and Emmeline Pankhurst was awesome. Heather is soft and balances it out. But does it go with Harper?
Brontë Charlotte is stunnning and I love the literary connection with her sister. Do I spell it Bronte or Brontë? Is Brontë Charlotte too much and would Brontë Emmeline or Brontë Lily be nicer?
Adair Lily goes well with Harper but has no real meaning for me. Does that matter?

Please pick your favourite and write why?

I like Bronte but don't like the middle names you've put with it

nooka · 01/12/2016 05:23

I really don't like surnames as first names, but as you have a Harper already I'm guessing you do OP! With that in mind Brontë fits best with your other names. Charlotte as the middle name really doesn't work at all though. I'd go with Brontë Heather of all the names you've listed. I think you probably do need the 'ë' , although you could get Bront-ee as a result (as people may think it's like Zoë)

Bronte will be tricky as the umlauts will confuse people or just be omitted (as in this post!), and I really wouldn't pair it with Charlotte (that's just Charlotte Bronte, muddled up). I reckon you'll also get people pronouncing it Bron-tee and Bron-TAY (emphasis on the Tay) which may be kind of irksome.
Adair is a last name or a small Scottish boy. The surname- as-first-name thing works best if it's a name you have a link to I think. Otherwise it's a bit random.
Emmeline is a lovely name.

MitzyLeFrouf · 01/12/2016 12:27

Adair reminds me of Mad Dog Adair and the village of Adare in Ireland (a very pretty village btw)

Bronte Charlotte is bonkers. Would be like calling a child Dickens Charles or Austen Jane. Just very strange.

I'd go with Emmeline but I quite like Heather as a first name too!

I think Bronte goes well with your other names but agree with PPs, Bronte Charlotte us overkill. I love Emmeline but it just seems too long with Heather. Emmeline Bronte would be lovely.

Congrats on your baby girl OP.

Bronte is nice, but I think you need to move completely away from the Bronte sisters for a middle name.

heron98 · 01/12/2016 14:16

I think Bronte is hideous as a first name (sorry!)

TheRealBarenziah · 01/12/2016 14:53

I really don't like Bronte as a first name, and agree that the first thing that comes to mind is Brontesaurus. Emmeline and Heather are nice, and you could still use Charlotte - how about Emmeline Charlotte?

Pemba · 01/12/2016 15:25

I know Bronte is used as a first name for girls in the US, and it has a nice sound, but I dislike last names for first names in general. Another negative thing is that I think it means 'thunder'. Also the brontasaurus thing. So not keen anyway, and yes Bronte Charlotte is completely OTT!

And Adair sounds like a racehorse.

Emmeline is lovely and fairly unusual. Also has good potential for diminutives like Emmy, Emma etc. Heather is also nice. So I would choose Emmeline Heather.

I really like Brontë. Not with Charlotte.

Brontë Amelia
Brontë Lucia
Brontë Delilah
Brontë Sophia
