Which of these two do you like best?

I prefer Morven. I don't like the 'rag' part of Morag.

Morag is actually my MIL's name. She hates it and told everyone at school her name was Moira. She goes by Mo now.

QuimReaper · 17/11/2016 21:49

Good grief, Morag is the ugliest name in the world, I've never met one! Agree that Morven is much softer. I can't think of a single good word with an "ag" ending - gag, hag, slag, rag...

I used to know a Morvah too. It's the name of a village in Devonshire I think.

Surf25 · 17/11/2016 21:51

If between those two only, then Morven. No doubt. Am in Scotland too. Any other choices?

Surf25 · 17/11/2016 21:52

P.S. I agree with pp, it is the 'rag' part of Morag that I think is the reason I have never liked it! There are many other lovelier names out there...surely?! Just my opinion!!!

HurricaneSwallows · 18/11/2016 05:18

Oh yes! I didn't add I was Scottish when I gave Moven as my choice.

I know a Morag the toe-rag!
Just one though

Otherwise it makes me thing of an elderly lady

HearTheThunderRoar · 18/11/2016 05:33

Morven it's the better of the two.

Morag is just woeful, I also think of the Morag from Home and Away, a very cold character!

Meeep · 18/11/2016 09:40

Morven

soupmaker · 18/11/2016 09:45

I'm Scottish and had no idea there was a Highland and Lowland way of pronouncing Morag. I have a family member called Morag the Toerag - and she most certainly is!

I'd choose Morven over Morag. Don't meet many Morvens these days. I had one in my class at school, she was lovely.

HelenaJustina · 18/11/2016 09:47

Morag. Good strong name, they spend more time as an adult than as a cute toddler! In our house she'd probably get 'Mory' as an affectionate short

HairsprayBabe · 18/11/2016 09:48

Oooh hard, both are strong and mysterious sounding, I love them. Never heard of Morven before, and Morag reminds me of Katie Morag.

I think I would go for Morven out of the two as it is slightly more feminine sounding.

Deux · 18/11/2016 09:51

Morven is much better. It's a lovely mountain.

Jooni · 19/11/2016 09:23

Morag is fabulous! You should definitely use it as I don't think I'd be brave enough. It'll definitely be a divisive choice, more so than Morven I'd have thought.

raviolidreaming · 19/11/2016 10:55

She goes by Mo now

Same with the 20-something Morag I know who hates her name. I think Morag is harsh sounding and dislike it immensely, so Morven would get my vote.

ShowMeTheElf · 19/11/2016 10:59

I like how both of them sound. Morven makes me think of medieval queens/fairy type stuff. Morag is resolutely Scottish imo. So pick the one which suits best.

buzzlightyearsdinosaur · 19/11/2016 11:09

Morven if I had to choose. Morag is to harsh sounding. I loved the name Morag in home and away, it suited the character brilliantly but I would not choose it to name my child.

CageyBee · 19/11/2016 11:13

Morag is a cat name.

Morven!

JunosRevenge · 19/11/2016 11:47

Here's a picture of Morven - it's the big one.

Morven or Morag
SpookyPotato · 19/11/2016 11:57

I knew a Morven at uni and it really suited her, it's lovely. Morag is awful!
