You could drop the L and make it Eton.....that's definitely posh.

squoosh · 26/10/2016 14:38

Bentley is a cool surname. But Elton as a name more or less belongs to Elton John. I really wouldn't do it.

OhHolyFuck · 26/10/2016 14:38

Do it! There's a million Thomas' already

NightWanderer · 26/10/2016 14:39

Just do it. Youll always regret it if you dont.

SweetChickadee · 26/10/2016 14:40

It doesn't roll off the tongue, Elton Bentley.

I agree that Thomas, Charles or William Bentley sound much posher. Really quite classy.

Elton, meh not so much Grin

squoosh · 26/10/2016 14:42

'Just do it. Youll always regret it if you dont.'

And little Elton might always regret it if she does Wink

ScarletSienna · 26/10/2016 14:44

I know of three Thomas's under 5. There are more children called Thomas, Henry and James etc than Elton but not millions of any of them.

Normandy144 · 26/10/2016 14:45

Ah ok so Bentley is the surname. I think I'd be tempted to ditch Elton in that case. What about Jasper or Hayden?

Starduke · 26/10/2016 14:52

Agree with PP about William sounding good. Also Nicolas, Christopher, Max

NightWanderer · 26/10/2016 14:58

What is wrong with Elton?

Is it because Bentley sounds like Bent and Elton John is gay? Confused

I think more of Ben Elton. I think Elton is a cool name.

squoosh · 26/10/2016 15:03

'Is it because Bentley sounds like Bent and Elton John is gay?'

Er, no. I think you're the only person to have made that leap!

Soubriquet · 26/10/2016 15:04

El bent....

NightWanderer · 26/10/2016 15:07

Ok Grin it's probably just the sound then. I just didn't get why people are so against it.

itsbetterthanabox · 26/10/2016 15:09

Elton is nice. Bentley isn't a name is it?

squoosh · 26/10/2016 15:12

Night to me it's on a par with Cliff. I can't associate the name Cliff with anyone but Cliff Richard just like Elton will always = Elton John to me.

If I try really hard I then remember Mr Elton from Emma, but he was a total dick so that doesn't help! Grin

NightWanderer · 26/10/2016 15:16

Yeah, but people call their kids things like Beyoncé and Cher these days.

Actually, Cliff is a pretty cool name too.

NoCapes · 26/10/2016 15:17

Yes Night but they shouldn't

squoosh · 26/10/2016 15:18

I can imagine a North London hipster calling their baby Cliff but I must be missing the hipster gene as I think Cliff is pretty bad. And by pretty bad obviously I mean as bad as it gets!

notagiraffe · 26/10/2016 15:18

I don't like Elton, sorry. I love Charles. Or Thomas. Or Elliott. Charles Bentley is a very classy name. Elton isn't. Why not have it as a middle name? Charles Elton Bentley works well.

nooka · 26/10/2016 15:25

I don't think that there is anything massively wrong with Elton, but I don't think it works very well with Bentley because of the repeat sounds. Elton Charles Bentley sounds better but I don't suppose he'll be called that very often! Still mostly he'll just be Elton, so if you like the name I'd go for it.

PuppyMonkey · 26/10/2016 15:30

Elliot Bentley - that's a yes from me.

Can't stand Elton John.

Vixxfacee · 26/10/2016 15:31

El Bent Grin

PuppyMonkey · 26/10/2016 15:33

That's sealed it for me Vixx. Grin

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 26/10/2016 15:34

I think it sounds great Smile

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 26/10/2016 15:36

Definitely prefer Thomas to Elton!

Hormones told me that "Breeze" was a nice name for DD.
