My favourite name in the world, but can enough people pronounce it? I don't want my child going through life explaining how to pronounce, and why it's pronounced the way it is.

Thanks a lot!

I wanted Iolo but I suspected here in London nobody could say it. Our cat is Iestyn and nobody can pronounce that even after being told a 100 times. I thought a little Iolo might struggle similarly.

DiegeticMuch · 27/10/2016 20:43

I like it!

Idris is better.

I would've pronounced Iolo like Lolo.

SpeakNoWords · 27/10/2016 21:27

It's spelt "iolo" not "lolo". In this font you can't tell the difference between a capital "i" and a lowercase "L".

Pluto30 · 27/10/2016 21:28

Yeah, Speak, I get that. I just mean that I would've immediately said "Lolo". I'm not familiar with these sorts of names as they aren't use where I'm from.

SpeakNoWords · 27/10/2016 21:47

Oh, sorry :-) I assumed that the "i" would cause a different mispronunciation, instead of pronouncing it like an "L".

I am not Welsh and if I saw Iolo I would pronounce it Eye-Oh-Low and assume it was a girl's name like Iona.
