My favourite name in the world, but can enough people pronounce it? I don't want my child going through life explaining how to pronounce, and why it's pronounced the way it is.

Thanks a lot!

I like Ianto, but can't name him after the Welsh international lock... especially a mentally unstable one lol

I still give my brother crap for being named after a neighbours character!

Amlodd! Yup, there is a point and that is well past it Grin.

Iestyn lovely but possibly even harder to pronounce outside of Wales. Rhodri is up there as one of my favourites but probably a bit tough to share with the family dog.

I love Ifor as well, if you are going on an 'I' theme.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/10/2016 23:44

Pick something like Evan or Bryn then!

Wolfiefan · 24/10/2016 23:45

Ianto is a character in Torchwood for me! Blush
Iestyn lovely too.

FifaFater · 24/10/2016 23:46

I wasn't aiming for an I theme but its seemed to work out that way.

One name I really like is Myrddin, which OH liked initially until she found out the meaning then veto'd... She veto'd so hard!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/10/2016 23:47

Gethin?
Rhys?

FifaFater · 24/10/2016 23:47

Evan = Almighty

And Bryn is Hill, my brothers would anhialate the kid by calling him Hill, Hillsy or Hilly mcgee!

does anyone remember lolo balls? those ball things you jumped on as kids...
aside from that I quite like it!

FifaFater · 24/10/2016 23:48

I know too many Gethins and Rhys's, their character flaws are too engrained in the name.

OP posts:
MrSlant · 24/10/2016 23:55

Myrddin, why the veto on meaning? I would veto it because it is the name of the country-wide hospital database which is shit but apart from that it's great.

I'd say Rhys but there are a lot about, well round here anyway. Gwilym is nice, quite old fashioned but easily shortened to Wil if out in the wilds of the English speaking world. I like Teifi or Teifion too. Can you tell I am going through the class list in my head now Smile. Noá, Idris (LOVE!), Gruffydd (I like Griff as nn) or Llew? I think Welsh boys names could be my specialist subject on Mastermind Grin.

MrSlant · 24/10/2016 23:57

Bryn is forever, and only, a character in Gavin and Stacey!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 25/10/2016 00:00

Ieuan then. Or Aeddan. Or Idloes.

FifaFater · 25/10/2016 00:01

Idris I really like!!!

OP posts:
MrSlant · 25/10/2016 00:04

Oh choose Idris then, if only for me and my veto given by DH when DS was born Grin.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 25/10/2016 00:05

I like Idris but mentally tack 'the dragon' on to it. I'd get over it though. Ifor too.

MrSlant · 25/10/2016 00:06

I still want to know why Mydrrin was vetoed (or is Merlin too much if you translate? I quite like still).

FifaFater · 25/10/2016 00:15

Ye the Merlin thing annoyed her too much.

Ifor reminds me of the engine too much!

OP posts:
Choccyhobnob · 25/10/2016 12:48

Oh please use Idris!

Soubriquet · 25/10/2016 12:52

I wouldn't have had a clue on how to pronounce this name

EleanorRigby123 · 25/10/2016 12:54

Fifi - I think you are absolutely right. And your DC will be teased unmercifully for their entire life if you call them this.

SpeakNoWords · 25/10/2016 13:07

18 babies were called Iolo last year and 19 the year before that, in England and Wales. I guess most of them in Wales.

PinkSwimGoggles · 25/10/2016 13:22

I like the name.

exotic and nice sounding. have never heard of yolo...

Sophronia · 25/10/2016 14:19

I really like Iestyn

Applecarts · 25/10/2016 14:29

I love Iolo and Iestyn and Iantho.

FifaFater · 25/10/2016 16:02
