gilly - did you call him Billy as a baby/small child? Was he known as Billy at Primary School? I plan on everyone thinking his name is Billy, so I hope it doesn't happen Sad I suppose I'll never be able to stop it though!

I know a Billy who is William on his bc. His parents called him Billy as a nickname as a baby thinking he'd want to be called Bill/Will as he grew up. But that hasn't happened, he's now 16 and is known by everyone as Billy. It's a lovely name!

Pluto30 · 21/10/2016 22:44

Love it.

Billy is the best nickname for William. Wills are a dime a dozen, but Billy has character.

ajabajavitasoffan · 21/10/2016 22:46

Love it! Our new DS was very nearly Billy (not even William, just Billy!)

PunkrockerGirl · 21/10/2016 22:47

I like it. Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/10/2016 22:49

Don't like it at all.

mummag · 21/10/2016 22:50

I have a billy. He's William on birth cert but I actually regret it as was talked into it by other half. He's known as Billy and it totally suits it.

fakenamefornow · 21/10/2016 22:51

I like it.

Nothing weird about it, traditional but not boring.

Cakescakescakes · 21/10/2016 22:52

Love it

AlexandraEiffel · 21/10/2016 22:54

Nice name

gillybeanz · 21/10/2016 23:15

Zip

I tried but once his mates started calling him Will, it was game over. people asked why I called him Billy, including him Sad He's an adult now and I plan to make an untraditional speech as the mother of the groom and call him "My Boy Bill" after this song, the reason I wanted a Billy.

I'm a fan of musicals. Grin
gillybeanz · 21/10/2016 23:18

If you definitely want Billy and nothing else will do, you'll need to name him this, which would be a shame I know as you lose the option of William.

I love names like this though because at least if the kid really doesn't like his full name, or suit it there are options.

We did this with ds2 name as well, very traditional, but dd name has no alternative. We had given up at this point.

HardcoreLadyType · 21/10/2016 23:20

I know a Billy (his actual name) who is thick as mince, if that helps, at all?

CatThiefKeith · 21/10/2016 23:22

I only know one and everyone calls him Silly Billy

kiwipie · 21/10/2016 23:22

Very sweet

Audreyhelp · 21/10/2016 23:24

Why not just call him billy and not William . ?

Ladybunnyfluff · 21/10/2016 23:24

Round here the kids still say "a bit of a Billy" as in 'Billy-no-mates' so it would be a no here.

HappyCamel · 21/10/2016 23:31

I thinks it's nice for a baby or young kid but giving him the option of William and it's variants for when he's grown up is nice and less controlling. Both my kids have names they can customize when they want to.

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 22/10/2016 04:12

Love it. I always sing Wedding Bell Blues when I use or hear it.

a8mint · 22/10/2016 08:02

The only billy I know is really naughty

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 22/10/2016 08:05

My grandad is William but known as Billy and he is the loveliest man in the world so I think it's a great name.

My ds has William as a middle name
