I'm in Ireland. Not a fan of Billy over here, it gets used a lot for boys and for girls (Billie)

Ankleswingers · 22/10/2016 18:24

I love Billy Smile

PterodactylToenails · 22/10/2016 18:26

I only know chavs and thugs called Billy.

ageingrunner · 22/10/2016 18:27

It's slang for amphetamine - billy wizz
I like it though

MadameJosephine · 22/10/2016 18:34

I came on to say that I love it but would put William on his bc but I see you are planning to do that already so I definitely approve, gorgeous name

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/10/2016 10:07

Lovely !

QueenLizIII · 23/10/2016 12:22

I sounds sweet. But it has lots of negative associations and other meanings and more potential for teasing than many other names

Silly Billy
Billy no mates
Billy the Kid
Billy goat
Hill Billy
Billy Bob
Billy Whizz from beano

Made popular more recently as a girls name: Billie Piper

It just has so many associations that arent good. I wouldnt call a boy that.

If he is going to be William, how about Will. Or calling him William and seeing what he likes when he is a bit older. Billy may develop as his nn naturally.

passingthrough1 · 23/10/2016 12:37

As long as William on the BC I approve!

It's basically a nickname .. you can call him whatever you want (and Billy is cute!) and if for whatever's reason he doesn't like it when he's older he can be Will to others.

abbsismyhero · 23/10/2016 12:44

I have a billy he has William on his bc gets called billy bill and occasionally will its a good name

Omgkitties · 23/10/2016 12:52

My brother is Billy (I think he's 19?haha) Just Billy aswell, not William. He is an arsehole but I wouldn't say anymore than any other 19 year old lad although he was a real prick when at school but again maybe just the same as most teenager boys? Not that I'd ever say don't call your son a name because I know someone with that name that isn't nice 😂 A name doesn't determine their personality.

JunebabyT · 23/10/2016 12:56

I love William and don't mind billy but wouldn't push for it as a nickname personally

Eminybob · 23/10/2016 13:02

I have a William but sorry I don't like Billy. I'm hoping ours becomes Will, although he is very much William at the moment (he's 2)
I suppose he might become a Billy but I'm hoping to avoid it if possible.

golfmonkey · 23/10/2016 18:52

I love it personally! If you absolutely didn't want another nickname could you just call him Billy or even Bill on the BC? so Bill nn Billy? William nice though too!

TheHiphopopotamus · 23/10/2016 19:01

Love the name William or Will, but not Billy. Reminds me of a budgie I used to have or 3 Billy Goats Gruff.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/10/2016 19:11

There's a boy called Billy at the school I work in. He is a lovely well behaved boy. I like the name because of him, I think.

Paddington68 · 23/10/2016 19:21

It's lovely, but even if i didn't like it it has nothing to do with anyone else what you call your son.
