Noa for a girl? I personally love it but the hubby isn't sure. He likes it though.

It's a the name of a cheap perfume, not keen.

mouldycheesefan · 21/10/2016 17:54

Is it short for quinoa

SirChenjin · 21/10/2016 17:57

Pronounced Wah Grin

Finola1step · 21/10/2016 18:00

I do immediately think of Noah when seeing Noa in writing.

But at the risk of derailing, I'm intrigued by pugsakes post. Ferrari and Hurricane? Lamborghini and Isobar?

Brankolium · 21/10/2016 18:03

Ooh, I'm guessing Storm and Porche pugsakes?

Chinlo · 21/10/2016 18:04

Yes, in some places it is a girl's name, but in the UK there is a very popular boy's name that sounds exactly the same!

Imagine I found out that in Timbuktu, Jak is a girl's name. Would I use it for my daughter in the UK?

No, I would not.

Chinlo · 21/10/2016 18:06

pugsakes

Elise and.... Rain?

Shurelyshomemistake · 21/10/2016 19:59

Um it is definietely a girls' name. Not just in Israel, I think it is also fairly popular in nordic countries. I really like it.

Konyaa · 21/10/2016 20:02

My Italian colleagues daughter is called noa.

HappyCamel · 21/10/2016 20:03

Noelle is pretty and more obviously a girls name.
If I saw Noa I'd assume it was a typo for Noah and referred to a boy.

TwentyKTV · 21/10/2016 20:04

I like it. I like Nola too.

Shurelyshomemistake · 21/10/2016 20:05

Popular in France too, as a girls' name.

ClaudiaJean2016 · 21/10/2016 20:08

If you're going to use it as her full given name, do her a favour and spell it 'Noah'.

Noël or Noelle would be a nicer alternative.

ClaudiaJean2016 · 21/10/2016 20:10

I also know a Noelyn who pronounces it more like Noah-Lynn than Nolan.

Flumpnugget · 21/10/2016 20:11

Pretty Name- go for it!

EarlGreyTeaAndToast · 21/10/2016 20:14

Noah as a boy name is the mispronounced one! It ought to be pronounced with a hard H I think, from what I've read about the original form.
Noa for a girl is beautiful, and if I remember correctly means something different anyway?
It was on my list!
Mt kids have unusual names often slated on here and yet they have never once been "bullied" or "had to explain it" 😏

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt · 21/10/2016 20:17

What about Nia instead?

FannyWincham · 21/10/2016 20:18

It's pretty but Noah is really, really popular for boys right now.

Sugarcoma · 21/10/2016 21:15

I love it for a girl. I know a couple. And Google model Noa Tishby - she seems to have done fine with it!

Pluto30 · 21/10/2016 21:35

Horrible. Hate it. But I hate Noah for a boy too.

SleepFreeZone · 21/10/2016 21:35

I really like it 👍

ElizabethHoney · 22/10/2016 00:58

It's beautiful, and much more traditional than it sounds - there's actually a woman called Noa in the bible (Numbers).

But your daughter would spend her life having to spell out and correct the spelling of her name. Plus, to most people, it sounds like a boy's name - something which would be no problem if she's always confident, feminine and beautiful, but which could result in some nasty bullying and embarrassment for her if she goes through a phase when she's not all three of those things. Sorry, I know that sounds harsh, but as a teacher, I saw the effect of a lot of different sorts of names.

I think if you call her Noa (and it is a lovely name), you need to give her a much more standard middle name, which she can use in future if she wants to.

dailymaillazyjournos · 22/10/2016 21:32

I really like it. It's a Hebrew name and is popular in Israel, but I don't see why it can't be used if you like it. I'm Jewish and have a Jewish biblical name but I know other women who aren't Jewish with the same name. i think Noa is pretty and feminine and over here, unusual.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/10/2016 10:06

No.
