Is Louisa dated or boring?

I strongly dislike the band Louise (apologies to any Louises out there!) but Louisa is definitely growing on me and v pretty. Is it a bit dated? Dull? Haven't heard of any little Louisas around here. I do seem to gravitate to 80s/90s kind of names!

Neither. Its very pretty and classic

Libby34 · 04/10/2016 20:05

I love Louisa! And I also don't like Louise. I don't think it's dated - it may not be common but atm there are lots of Olivia's, Ava's, Amelia's etc and I think they're all very similar to Louisa and work well.

chinlo · 04/10/2016 20:28

Luisa is the Italian version of Louisa

It's also very common (it and Luiza) in nearly all Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. It's probably different looking enough to help reduce the "Louise" mistakes too.

Ida3456 · 04/10/2016 20:32

Oh I love it... Really nice name.

I think it sounds classic (in a good way)

PikachuBoo · 04/10/2016 21:14

I think it's lovely but I'm quite old (and have all boys).

CremeEggThief · 04/10/2016 21:17

I think it's lovely too, but a lot of people with names ending in 'a' are called the 'e' version. I have one of them!

Muddlingalongalone · 04/10/2016 21:21

I love it. It was in my top 2 but ended up using it as a middle name. Delivery suite Midwife's name was the other name on the final list & it seemed like a sign.
Turns out I chose a top 10 name so poor Dd2 is going to be 1 of 5 in the class etc instead of a timeless beautiful currently relatively rare name.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 05/10/2016 08:29

Hmmm I think the possibility of it being confused for Louise a lot, as the Louisa upthread has experienced, is enough to put me off 😄 It is a pretty name though. Also if DC2 is a boy he'll probably be Lucas so then Louisa would be out for subsequent kids!

I like it a lot

Usernamer · 05/10/2016 13:41

Louisa is pretty and underused, I really like it.

Caipira · 07/10/2016 23:39

I really like it. It's quite common where I live as Luiza/Luisa or Maria-Luisa usually shortend to Malu. I know a Luisa in her 40's and one girl I went to school with was Sarah Louise and her little sister was Louisa. So it is more of a 70s/80's name. Why not revive it, it's a classic name.

Caipira · 07/10/2016 23:42

I also don't like Louise

tristerflexu · 07/10/2016 23:46

Love It

TheColonelAdoresPuffins · 07/10/2016 23:48

I love Louisa but not Louise

ayeokthen · 07/10/2016 23:49

I like it. I'm not keen on the name Sophie but I love Sophia, so it's not weird to like Louisa but not Louise.

WeArePregnant11 · 08/10/2016 00:16

Louisa is beautiful.

GoldPlatedBacon · 08/10/2016 09:24

Isn't Luisa pronounced 'Loo-ees-sa' rather than 'Loo-eeze-ah'? Correct me if I'm wrong!!

Fairylea · 08/10/2016 09:27

Louisa is the main character from Me Before You, I suspect a there may be quite a few Louisa's about in the next few years as so many people love the book and film! But it's a lovely name, I really like it.

blinkowl · 08/10/2016 09:35

I love Louisa, beautiful name.

crayfish · 08/10/2016 09:37

I really like it. I know a six year old Louisa and she's one of the coolest kids I know so that might have influenced me!

DeputyPecksBentBeak · 08/10/2016 09:41

I don't think it's dated, just not used a lot. I know a little 2yo Louisa. It's a lovely name

MotherDuckSaid · 08/10/2016 10:36

I prefer Louis (pron low-iss)

JosephineMaynard · 08/10/2016 10:53

I prefer Louis (pron low-iss)

Do you mean Lois? Like Lois Lane from Superman?

I wouldn't use Louis for a girl as that's usually a boys name pronounced as lew-ie or lew-iss.

LotisBlue · 08/10/2016 11:04

I love it! I wanted it for dd but Dp said no Sad

MotherDuckSaid · 08/10/2016 11:10

YES Lois 😁
