Scarlet or Violet?

Which do you prefer?

I know both can be thought of as colours, among other things such as the flower, but to me they have drastically different images. For Scarlet the phrase "a scarlet woman" comes to mind, and for Violet the phrase "a shrinking violet" comes to mind. Scarlet is a colour associated with danger and sexual passion, while violet is a colour which is associated with mourning, and it means modesty in flower language.

Scarlett also reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind. She was beautiful and attractive, but also impetuous and selfish and very strong-willed. Not really a "good woman" sort of character.

So they have such drastically different images to me. I like Violet much more. I love blue violet flowers and violet perfume, and I think Violet sounds very sweet and demure, and I personally would prefer sweet and demure to feisty and the other connotations.

I think Violet is rising in popularity now, so though Scarlett has been more popular, I don't think Violet's a rare name either

All the Scarletts I've met have been spoilt little Madams. But that's just my association with the name!

Violet is a nice name, but add just one letter and you get 'Violent'.
Scarlett is a bit over-used these days tbh.

Really dislike Scarlet, sounds harsh and reminds me of a scar!

I know a wonderful, artsy and cool Scarlett who does a lot of great things. Violet reminds me a bit of violent.

Much prefer Scarlett, Violet is too wishy washy for me and I know 3 under 5 however, I know no Scarlett's.

Much prefer Violet. Violet sounds graceful, feminine but ever so slightly whimsical/bohemian so individual. Scarlet to me is brash and very overused.

Dont like either of them. They are both very harsh sounding names.

Scarlett has the word Scar in it.

Violet sounds very similar to Violent / Violence.

I guess you could have the NN Lettie for Scarlett which would make me choose it as you can have a softer NN.

IMO they r very different names, id go with Violet as it evokes beautiful things and would sit well on all ages, I like the name Scarlett, but its a much harder sounding name and the connotations of scarlet woman and fever put me off it! Its also quite popular now, whereas ive never met a little violet and defo think its due a comeback 😊
