2 syllable girl names, that can't be shortened?

Any ideas?

Names like:

Scarlett
Layla

I don't mean names like Darcy (as that will get Darce, I just can't imagine anyone shortening a name to Scar or Lay)

Any ideas?

Laura
Lauren

Or not 2 syllables but you could use something already 'short' like Kate

pestov · 14/09/2016 14:01

Pretty much all names can be shortened. I have taught girls called Scarlie and Laylz by their friends

GoldPlatedBacon · 14/09/2016 14:06

I know a Scar. Even one syllable names become longer e.g Kate becomes Katie, Kim becomes Kimmy.

Perhaps Mia or Ava might work?

lemonzest123 · 14/09/2016 14:07

Hmmm...Cadence?

HairsprayBabe · 14/09/2016 14:10

Ruby
Collett
Helen
Sarah
Lucy
Cara
Sara
Evaine
Nova
Piper
Tina
Cora
Hannah

but as PP have said people will shorten whatever name you give a child, Lauren becomes Loz and Laura becomes Lauz etc. Its very hard to stop it

Biscuitsneeded · 14/09/2016 14:19

Clara? But if you like Scarlett and Layla I'm guessing you want a more modern name. Amber? Chloe? Willow?

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 14/09/2016 14:20

Emma
Olive
Margot

But yes, they could all become Ems, Ols, Mars to friends. I think all names can be shortened somehow.

I know an Erin. It is shortened to "Eh" by friends Grin

SerenDippitee · 14/09/2016 14:29

Literally any name can be shortened. My dad has a very short name and is known by his first initial only by some of his oldest friends.

Daisy? My friend is called Daisy, not heard her name be shortened in the 20 years I have known her!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/09/2016 19:32

Unfortunately, if people can't shorten a name, they usually lengthen it !
Possibly Amber or Opal.

Salmiak · 14/09/2016 19:32

Eva, Ava, Mia, poppy, Josie, Jody, Lola, Lana, Freya, Isla, noa, Clara,

SecretMongoose · 14/09/2016 19:36

I know a Mary who is called Maz.
I wouldn't worry about it, as lots of pp have said, shortening names is largely inevitable. I have three dc with short names and they all get called various things by friends and relatives
