Opinions on the name Bailey?

We are liking the name Bailey. We quite like the Bayleigh spelling, but know it's youneeque and don't want to lumber our child with that.

Bailey seems so pretty though, I know lots of boys have the name and I know it's meanings aren't great, but it just sounds pretty. Reminds me of nature and flowers bay tree? Do they exist? Just makes me think of that!

Opinions?

I've got a bay tree! They do exist. I'm not keen on Bailey though, sorry. It makes me think of Bill Bailey. What about laurel? Or is that ridiculously different to Bailey?

Sorry, not keen. Especially not with the unnecessary spelling.

It was the top of my list both times either for a girl or a boy - my husband however was not keen so no Baileys in this house

It's ok as a surname.

Makes me think of the drink Bailey's or hay bales.

I'm sorry, I think it's awful. It's a bit like Jayden, or Kai.

If you are looking for a nature like name how about Rowan, for either a boy or a girl?

Or for a girl - Rosie, or Flora?

I really like it - it sounds kind.

My pen pal is Baileigh. It suits her.

A friend called her little girl that. I struggled to think of something nice to say. Next time I saw her she'd had a rethink and called the kid something else. I think it's quite a fashionable name so it might not date well. But it's your kid so do what pleases you.

If you do use it, definitely go for the Bailey spelling; the other varient you posted looks dreadful and confusing. I'm not a fan however for either boy or girl.

Awful. Tacky. Even with the alcohol spelling. Which is 100 times better than the nads up one.

I've seen it for a boy but spelt Bailee for reasons I have no clue about.

I have a cat called Bailey (because he is Bailey's coloured) so obviously it's a name I like, but I'm not so sure for a child, as it sounds more like a surname. It's rather unusual, so I definitely wouldn't use a variant spelling as well, or you will be giving your kid a double dose of awkwardness around their name.

I gave my DD an unusual name, and haven't regretted it. The only negative comments we ever had were from DSiL and DBiL. Funny that.

its one of those 'dogs names' trends. seems quite popular at the moment. so long as its not fido I suppose! its interesting it reminds you of flowers and nature - is there a connection there apart from sounding a bit like bay tree?
