Joey for a girl?

LottieP987 · 18/08/2016 22:09

DC4 is due to arrive soon, and currently the only girl's names DH and I can agree on are Joey or Rosie.

I'm worried that Rosie is a bit too fashionable at the moment, which leaves us with Joey. In your opinion, is the poor child going to be constantly mistaken for a boy? In my mind, I associate the name with a girl- because the only Joey I know is an elderly female. Probably short for Josephine in her case.

Any other name suggestions? Can't end with an "a", and must be either one or two syllables.

I can only think of Joey from friends.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/08/2016 22:11

Joey the girl will spend a lifetime with Hmm faces directed her way.

Rosie is nice, I know some in their late 20's.

Sylvie?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/08/2016 22:13

It's awful more and even more so for a girl.
There are so many pretty names out there, and Joey is all you come up with, aside from Rosie
Yes Rosie is quite popular but also beautiful. She can opt for the more mature and classy Rose when she's older. If she wishes.
Or Josie short for Josephine would work.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 18/08/2016 22:18

The first Joey I thought of was the one from the Chalet School stories but yes, of course, Friends...

It would have to be short for something. Unless Joy?

DramaAlpaca · 18/08/2016 22:31

How about Joely?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 18/08/2016 22:45

Short for Jody/Jodie or Joanne?

dancemom · 18/08/2016 22:48

Was a character in Dawson's Creek not Joey?

WowserBowser · 18/08/2016 22:54

My first thought was Dawson's Creek. That and my Grandma's only budgie that wasn't called Bobby.

I don't dislike it. I like it o think. Might be a pain for her though. Find Rosie boring.

MrsGsnow18 · 18/08/2016 22:55

Joely, Jolie or Josie all are better options in my opinion.

I don't really like Joey for a boy but that's just my personal preferences, it makes me think of a baby kangaroo and also when I was a teen I remember everyone calling condoms Joeys Blush
I do like Joe for a boy though because I had a Relative called Joe who was lovely so I get that your liking of the name comes from someone nice that you know/knew.

If you love it, then don't let other people's opinions put you off. Would you use Josephine as full name?

LottieP987 · 18/08/2016 23:17

Joely is nice, but quite hard to say with my accent.

I'm not keen on any of the names that Joey could be shortened from- Josephine/Joanna. They're too long to match the other family names.

Hmmm, tricky, not getting great vibes about Joey. Will have to try and twist DH's arm about some of the other names I like.

I know a female Joey, I did wonder if someone had got confused at first and meant Jo as it's an unusual name for a girl.

A year later, I don't think about it at all, it suits her, but not sure if I'd be that brave. I'd probably go for a longer version with Joey for short.

pennyunwise · 19/08/2016 00:05

I don't even like it as a boy's name, but as a girl's name it's even worse. Everyone will always think she's a boy.

To me it's kind of like asking "Is Elizabeth okay for a boy?"

user1471501988 · 19/08/2016 10:29

Rosie, or Josie.
How about Jolene.

DerelictMyBalls · 19/08/2016 10:38

It makes me think: budgie.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/08/2016 10:50

Joey would be a nice nickname for Josephine, Joanna or Jocasta. Then there would be another option if/when your DD outgrows the nn.

Stevefromstevenage · 19/08/2016 10:52

I kinda like it. My ex was in love with Joey from Dawson's Creek.

Decanter · 19/08/2016 11:10

I think I like Joey, although it's a name I've never really given much thought to before. As it stands the word has now lost all meaning as I've read/said it too many times Confused My first thought was Dawson's Creek.

KoalaDownUnder · 19/08/2016 11:13

To me, a joey is a baby kangaroo.

I find it a bit silly as a standalone girls' name.

CordeliaFrost · 19/08/2016 19:40

The character in Dawson's Creek was Josephine ''Joey' Potter, so Joey wasn't her given name.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 19/08/2016 20:15

I think of Dawson's Creek too, I think it's fine although would probably use Joanne or Josephine on the BC to give other options.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 20/08/2016 15:43

Absolutely loooooove. Josephine though I'd shorten to Jos, which is the best name ever (DS' name Grin).

Bigfam · 20/08/2016 15:53

We've got a Josie & call her Jose for short (pronounced so it rhymes with close)

CrepeDeChineWag · 20/08/2016 15:55

No.

Friends. Baby Kangaroo. Blue Peter.

Tinkfromlovejoy · 20/08/2016 15:58

I love Joey for a girl. I don't know any, but if someone introduced their child to me as Joey I would probably gush over her lovely name a little. Smile
I like Rosie also, but prefer Rosa.
Swing as we have similar taste in names here are a few more of my favourites in case you haven't thought of them:
Alice
Frankie
Skye
Vita
Lucia
