Joey for a girl?

LottieP987 · 18/08/2016 22:09

DC4 is due to arrive soon, and currently the only girl's names DH and I can agree on are Joey or Rosie.

I'm worried that Rosie is a bit too fashionable at the moment, which leaves us with Joey. In your opinion, is the poor child going to be constantly mistaken for a boy? In my mind, I associate the name with a girl- because the only Joey I know is an elderly female. Probably short for Josephine in her case.

Any other name suggestions? Can't end with an "a", and must be either one or two syllables.

I went to school with a girl called Joey, not sure if it was short for anything, I quite like it.

DesolateWaist · 20/08/2016 16:03

Showing my age but to my generation Joey was an insult.

Floggingmolly · 20/08/2016 16:06

Joey is a budgies name. Or a canary...

sonlypuppyfat · 20/08/2016 18:32

Jodie is really lovely

Mouthfulofquiz · 20/08/2016 18:39

I love any name that has been used for a West Wing character - and Joey Lucas is fab. She's strong, clever etc

unicornthong · 21/08/2016 03:03

Hmmm maybe Jodie or Josie? Then you can shorten it.

Pemba · 21/08/2016 03:25

OK only if short for Joanna or Josephine or similar.

AnnaT45 · 21/08/2016 03:30

I like Joey! If you don't like the names it's from then stick to joey, she could always be Jo when she's older

I was at school with a Joey and she's still known by that name now (late 30s). I think she's actually a Joanne though.

crje · 21/08/2016 10:37

Jos (mistresses)is a nice nickname
Think she is josalyn.

Not a fan of joey

What about just Jo

GreatFuckability · 21/08/2016 11:52

I really like Joey!

PaperdollCartoon · 21/08/2016 11:57

I wouldn't have thought of it but actually I do like it. I'm not a fan of people giving kids shortenings as full names though. Lovely as a nn.

roseteapot101 · 21/08/2016 12:01

what about

roseanne
rosabelle
josephine

SorenaJ · 21/08/2016 12:59

Joey for a girl is amazing! Do it. Joey Potter was a character on Dawson's Creek.

amberdixie · 21/08/2016 22:02

Like Joey! Although she may get asked what it's short for - I guess it's not an issue to reply 'nothing'. Do it!

eddiemairswife · 21/08/2016 22:18

I'm Josephine; called Josie by my family. Read Little Women and Chalet School and really wanted to be called Jo. Went to University and roommate declared she would call me Jo. Many, many tears later I am still called Jo except by family and ex school friends.

kavvLar · 21/08/2016 22:21

HOW YOU DOIIIIN?

I hear Joey from Friends.

And Joey Deacon.

SerenDippitee · 21/08/2016 22:42

Joey in Dawson's Creek was a Josephine.

GladysKravitz · 21/08/2016 22:52

I absolutely love it. It means Joey Bettany to me (I was very into the chalet school), and I would assume it was short for Josephine (which I also love).

GoldFishFingerz · 22/08/2016 01:00

Adore Josephine. Would use joey
As a nick name for Josephine

Thanks everyone. Josephine is growing on me, it's a lovely name, just worried it's a bit long compared to other Dc's names.

Other girl's names we may like (having thought about extensively over the weekend) are:

Eliza- do you think people would associate it with that annoying nursery rhyme about Dear Henry and the bucket?
Martha
Clara
Scarlett -really not sure about this one
Autumn -DH not keen

Aargh- not long to decide. Hope it's a boy, as we have comfortably decided on a boy's name!

Go for Josie. A mixture of the two Grin

purplefox · 23/08/2016 03:26

I like Joey as I'm a huge fan of J names for girls - James, Juliette, Jolie, Joy etc. no one in your daughter's peer groups are going to associated Joey with the characters from Friends or Dawsons creek.

How about Zoe?
