Sci-Fi based names?

My DH watches all manner of these shite programmes and wants to name our child something outlandish.

I'm not completely opposed to having a less common name, and I'm prepared to listen to his ideas, but I'm hoping someone can suggest reasonably sensible names that I can put to him, because so far I'm not liking his suggestions. I'd like a real name rather than something totally made up for tv.

There is another thread about star wars/trek (which has made me brave enough to post this) so I'm good there. Think Stargate, Farscape, Continuum, Firely, Definance, Andromeda, etc
He does also like heroes based ones such as Arrow. Flash, Shield, etc.

Oh, we don't know what we are having, so need names suitable for each please.

Keira (Continuum?)
Aeryn (Farscape though will be a spelling nightmare!)
Thea (Arrow)
Selina (Batman)

Jay (Flash - could shorten from James)
Clark (Superman)
Kyle (Green Lantern)
Logan (Wolverine)

E.t?

twinjocks · 03/08/2016 18:48

My son's name is Jed - he has a bog-standard middle name beginning with M, but an imaginative friend suggested that had we given him a middle name beginning with I, like Ivan or Ivo, he could have been Jed I. Surname.

Our daughter is named after Ellen Ripley from the Alien movies, who is the coolest female character in any film ever, IMHO. But she has a nice "normal" name. Maybe one to consider?

Raines100 · 03/08/2016 21:56

Not a huge sci-fi fan, but here is what I can add:

Deanna- (as in Troy from Enterprise)
Kess- I think?- from Voyager
Cordelia- Buffy
Darla- Buffy
Drusilla- Buffy
Juliet- the actress that played the above
Lyla- Buffy

Paris- after Tom Paris from Voyager
Riley- Buffy
Angelus- Buffy
Lorne- Angel
Vincent- as in Kartheiser from Angel
Connor- Angel

Sevenofnine would make a lovely middle name...

MaelstromOfLunacy · 03/08/2016 22:09

My DH is a fan of Arrow - our daughter is Thea

badtime · 04/08/2016 16:54

From Farscape: Aeryn, Chiana, Moya

Boys names are less easy - I think D'Argo or Scorpius would be tricky to carry off!

Bananalanacake · 04/08/2016 17:10

I like the first suggestion being Data, that was my DP's preferred name for a boy. Except she turned out to be a girl and we named her a shorter version of B'E'lana.

n0ne · 04/08/2016 17:20

Trillian

MaterofDragons · 04/08/2016 17:26

B'elanna - ST Voyager
Keira - Continuum
Irisa - Defiance

But stumped on good boys names

CancellyMcChequeface · 06/08/2016 23:49

Nerys - Star Trek
Tyr - Andromeda
Alia - Dune

Or what about a star or constellation name? (possibly not Betelgeuse.)

DanceLover22 · 22/08/2016 02:56

I watch a few Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows, these are the ones I can think of that aren't too common.

Boy:
Quentin (Arrow)
Noah (Arrow)
Jonas (Stargate)
Quinn (Stargate)
Harrison (Flash)
Julian (Flash)
Hunter (Flash)
Carter (Flash)
Harvey (Farscape)

Girl:
Thea (Arrow)
Elena (Agents of Shield)
Iris (Flash)
Lyla (Flash)
Jasmine (Continuum)
Regan (Firefly)

I tend to find that sometimes the smaller/recurring characters have prettier names than the main characters in those types of shows.

Luke, James, Hal.

If he wants someone called Anakin, tell him to change his own name, and not inflict it on another human being unable to give consent.

GetAHaircutCarl · 23/08/2016 08:23

Clarke, Octavia, Wells and Lincoln from The 100.

From the Red Rising series; Darrow, Pax, Sevro, Dancer. Octavia, Eo.

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 23/08/2016 08:33

Has anyone said Seren? It's Welsh for star, but could your DH be convinced it's short for Serenity (Firefly)?

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 23/08/2016 08:38

Ford? Arthur? Zaphod at a stretch but probably not Slartibartfast.
