Am I being mad?

Willing to be told it's pregnancy hormones but I'm really warming to this name.

I even like Bo as a nn.

OP posts:

I know one, hasn't caused her any problems. If you love it go for it

BasementSlacks · 02/08/2016 19:12

OP. I think it's really nice! With a nice nickname for a littlie, (Boo) so what's not to love?
Boudicca sounds pretty AND has an interesting story and grown up sound to it as a full name.
And yes it's different. But IMO that is a total plus.
Nothing wrong with wanting your DC not to be number 4 in their school. I have a really overused name myself so I have been there as one of many at school in the workplace, in relationships etc. Tedium.

Tbf I would have pronounced it BOO-DICCA to rhyme with 'flicker' though, so if the correct pronunciation is something very different then I might not love it so much.

JigglypuffsCaptor · 02/08/2016 19:13

It's my dogs name, a giant ginger rhodesian ridgeback Blush

We know a Boudicca same age as my DD, so 2.5. Goes by Boo. It's unusual but not quite sure if it warrants all the above comments. At least it's an actual real name...

WomanScorned · 02/08/2016 19:20

Don't do it, OP.
There's an Elizabeth n my DC's class, and she was mercilessly teased when they studied the monarchy.
As was poor little Elsa, when they watched Frozen.
Except they weren't. I know of no child, ever to be bullied for their name. Well, Silly-Lily got a bit of ribbing, until the 6 year olds had wrung all the humour they could from it and moved on to Reuben-Poo-bum, so a day or two...
None are permanently scarred, as far as I know. Maybe a bit fed up of having to be distinguished from all the others, with the same name, by their size/hair colour,/initial of surname, etc.

NapoleonsNose · 02/08/2016 19:21

I knew a Boudicca when I was growing up but she was quite a bit younger than me. It was pronounced Boo-dikka and she was known as Boo. I actually quite like it and its not that outlandish nowadays. Back in the early 90s, she was quite unique!

LucyInTheSkyWithDonuts · 02/08/2016 19:24

Love it! Unusual and feisty :). DD2 was very nearly Guinevere but I bottled it (and still regret it sometimes!)

exWifebeginsat40 · 02/08/2016 19:27

i love it. go for it. Guinevere is also amazing.

Sophronia · 02/08/2016 19:58

I know one, her siblings have unusual names too.

HoratioNightboy · 02/08/2016 21:25

Boudicca is a brilliant name - I think you should go for it!

BlossomHillOne · 03/08/2016 12:08

Awful - I know of one. I thought it was an unusual choice, then I discovered the parents pronounced it Boe-Dee-Sha...

HallaWalla · 03/08/2016 12:10

I know a girl called Boudicca, it's a great name, my only reservation would be that it's quite an ugly sound.

neonrainbow · 03/08/2016 22:19

Romilly is not boring its beautiful. You could have Ro as a nickname if you like Bo. Please dont do Boudicca. Its not fair on your child.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 04/08/2016 09:44

Unless you live in castle, then no

DerelictMyBalls · 04/08/2016 13:29

Surely there is a happy medium between pretentious and 'boring'? Which other names do you like?

BeastofCraggyIsland · 04/08/2016 16:28

No, just no. Also, just because you don't name your child something 'unique'/pretentious like Aphrodite, Beowulf or Odysseus doesn't mean that you automatically have to call them whatever the top 3 names of the day happen to be either. There is a middle ground of names that aren't super common but aren't an embarrassment either.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 04/08/2016 16:31

Actually Romilly is a good example of what I meant in my last sentence; it's a lovely name.

squoosh · 04/08/2016 16:37

It's a bit much.

Shemozzle · 04/08/2016 23:22

I love it! Boudicca was so kick ass and I love the potential nicknames. Bodi, Boo, Bo. I put this on my list while ttc for number 3, but the only thing holding me back now is there is always debate over the pronunciation. My partner and I both pronounce it differently and I've read about 4 different variations.

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 04/08/2016 23:32

What about Iceni?

ChanelNo314 · 04/08/2016 23:39

It's miss Battleaxe's first name!
Grin

LunaLoveg00d · 06/08/2016 13:04

It's your pregnancy hormones. Please don't.

OlennasWimple · 06/08/2016 13:10

I'm surprised by the strength of felling on here: it's a real name, it's a string woman's name, and I quite like the sound of the name.

It wouldn't be my first choice, but it's a long way from some of the names that crop up here sometimes

roseteapot101 · 06/08/2016 13:18

i think you have a bad case of baby brain
