Theon? Never come across it before but a friend's sister just named her baby this and I wondered if anyone knew of it?

Pipbin · 04/06/2016 16:09

Has no one ever heard of Theodore Roosevelt?

Yes, shortened to Ted as in Bill and

MadameDePomPom · 04/06/2016 16:16

Meh in a few years time nobody will even remember GoT.

I seriously doubt that. I suspect GoT will be a Thing for many a year to come. It's firmly settled in popular culture.

AliceThrewTheFookingGlass · 04/06/2016 17:30

Someone I went to school with has just called their daughter kaleesi.

I think theon is quite subtle in comparison.

originalmavis · 04/06/2016 17:41

The kaleesi character is a right pain the the arse.

MadameDePomPom · 04/06/2016 17:49

She's awful isn't she? So dull. Always banging on about her blimmin' dragons.

NeedACleverNN · 04/06/2016 17:51

I like Dany but I can her story getting dark and twisted from where she's trying to do "right"

originalmavis · 04/06/2016 17:51

Whiney brat. No sense of humour and bloody boring. I hope the dragons eat her.

Pipbin · 04/06/2016 18:00

This is the problem with naming your child after a character before the program finishes. What is she turns out to be an unpleasant bell end?

AliceThrewTheFookingGlass · 04/06/2016 19:01

Isn't kaleesi actually spelt khaleesi anyway?

originalmavis · 04/06/2016 19:19

Oh god, who cares, it's a made up name anyway. You could spell it cahleezi if you wanted. Or kalleezii. Or xirttbkfstj. It doesn't really matter. Very dull character.

AliceThrewTheFookingGlass · 04/06/2016 20:01

C'mon she's not that bad Mavis, John snow is far duller. The dragons should eat him.

originalmavis · 04/06/2016 20:12

He is just as bad. Go on, have a bloody drink and have a laugh.

MadameDePomPom · 04/06/2016 20:36

The temptation to shout "oh, well flayed!" Would be too much for me.

Pipbin · 05/06/2016 20:13

Theon has been used since 2002: names.darkgreener.com/#theon

Early adopter Game of Throne geeks.

AddictedToCoYo · 05/06/2016 20:17

There are some great names in GOT but unfortunately most of them have unpleasant or traumatising connotations. Theon Greyjoy had his cock cut off so I imagine this little Theon might be in for a bit of a ribbing at school.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 06/06/2016 11:37

My friends daughter has just named her son Theon. I have never seen GoT so had no idea!

PattyPenguin · 06/06/2016 18:51

I bet some of the parents who named their kids Theon before 2011 are a bit peeved / embarassed. Theon appeared in the first novel, published in 1996, and didn't get tortured and castrated until the novel published in 2011. Might have appeared an OK name, although it has to be said that Theon turns into a bit of a toerag even in the 2nd novel published in 1999.

As for the ones who've called their offspring Theon since the 2011 novel, A Dance With Dragons and especially since Season 3 of the TV series, well, you have to wonder...

AngieBolen · 06/06/2016 19:04

I know a very nice, sane, sensible person with a toddler called Theon. I had no idea about he Game of Thrones connection as I've never seen it.

Her other DC have "normal", if trendy names.
