Theon? Never come across it before but a friend's sister just named her baby this and I wondered if anyone knew of it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
OSETmum · 02/06/2016 20:03

I like it, but didn't know it was a Game of Thrones character or what happens to him. I also know of a baby Khaleesi (sp?) which I think is a GoT character but it's a horrible name.

gingerboy1912 · 02/06/2016 20:08

GOT character, shame because I like the name but he's another shitty horrible character

Flumplet · 02/06/2016 20:15

Theon is quite an OK character as GoT goes I think lol. But he does have his penis chopped off and sent to his family in a presentation gift box.

Theo is nice as an alternative - I have one of these myself.

cornishglos · 03/06/2016 00:39

I don't know GoT but thought Ffion when I saw the OP.

Zhabr · 03/06/2016 09:16

Khaleesi is not a name, but a title (wife of Khal). Daenerys nn Dani is a beautiful name, but I like Emilia more.
With Theon it is probably wise to chop off "n", just to be on the safe side. Lol at "avoid Ramsey".

MadameDePomPom · 03/06/2016 10:41

I think giving a baby a Game of Thrones name is the naffest thing ever.

Penfold007 · 03/06/2016 10:48

Its an ancient Greek name meaning 'Godly'.

Elllicam · 03/06/2016 10:50

I met a Ramsay in the playground the other day, he was about 6 so probably not GOT related. Poor parents though, how annoying to pick a nice name and then have everyone think mad rapey flaying man.

DurhamDurham · 03/06/2016 10:57

Prefer Hodor myself Grin

BeckyWithTheMediocreHair · 04/06/2016 09:07

Oh dear. He's a character in GoT who gets his penis chopped off.

Khaleesi makes me cringe, too. It's a title, not a name. It's like calling your DD Princess or Duchess.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 04/06/2016 09:10

There was something like 164 Khaleesi's registered in the UK last year.

I hope they didn't all think they were going for a unique name...

Ememem84 · 04/06/2016 09:13

I like the name but agree with GoT references.

I do however want to call future baby ds Thorin. (The hobbit). Dh disagrees. We'll see.

Archer26 · 04/06/2016 09:55

I know of a woman who's grandson was named Tyrion. She had never watched GOT so wasn't aware of the character.

When I mentioned I was a fan she asked me to explain the character. I changed the subject as I didn't fancy explaining he was an alcoholic lechorous dwarf. At least his character has improved now.

Never heard of it and on hearing it's a Gane Of Thrones name I wouldn't use it BUT aside from that I quite like it! I've always liked Leon, Leon and Theo so Theon ticks the same boxes.

MyNewBearTotoro · 04/06/2016 10:08

Leo*, Leon and Theo.

PovertyPain · 04/06/2016 10:10

Theon is the shortened version of Theodore and means godly.

Has no one ever heard of Theodore Roosevelt?

AwfulBeryl · 04/06/2016 10:11

I really like the name, wouldn't ever use it though because of the the whole turn coat, child murdering, willy chopping thing.

AwfulBeryl · 04/06/2016 10:12

I thought his nn was Teddy not Theon Confused Poverty

Aussiemum78 · 04/06/2016 10:17

I've worked with a female Theona.
Not theon though

MyNewBearTotoro · 04/06/2016 10:21

PovertyPain: Theo is the usual shortening of Theodore. I know 4 Theodores but all have the nickname Theo, I don't think Theon is a usually shortening.

LolaStarr · 04/06/2016 10:22

I actually really like the name Theon. And I watch game of thrones Grin not such a great character but it's a nice sounding name.

PickleBot · 04/06/2016 16:05

Meh in a few years time nobody will even remember GoT.

PattyPenguin · 04/06/2016 16:07

Theo is the usual shortening of Theodore, at least nowadays, but as Beryl says, Theodore Roosevelt was nicknamed Teddy. Hence teddy bears, after a story published after Roosevelt had been out hunting the animals in 1902.

TheHobbitMum · 04/06/2016 16:08

Nooooo!! Of all characters lol
