Aurora - sleeping beauty or northern lights

Hello

Would appreciate some honest feedback...am 37 weeks pregnant with second daughter.

My current favourite name is Aurora but i want to know if people associate this with Disney/ Sleeping Beauty or with Aurora Borealis/ northern lights? I'm hoping it's the latter as dd1 doesn't have a 'disney princess' name but step daughter does and don't want her to feel left out! The many many joys of picking baby names!

Thanks ladies!

I think location has a lot to do with it too. Here in Northern Canada it would be about the lights. For those in the US I'd think Disney

MissTessmacher · 22/03/2016 20:37

I didn't know it was a disney name. Just makes me think of the amazing lights and also leads to the nn Rory which I absolutely adore.

Thumbs up from me.

That's a good point! I'm in the S E of England.

The Battleship Aurora, moored in St Petersburg, a blank shot from which signalled the start of the assault on The Winter Palace at the beginning of the October Revolution in 1917. So a socialist name.

rollonthesummer · 22/03/2016 20:43

Disney for me!

sandylion · 22/03/2016 20:43

To me it's a fab veruca salt song! It's a cute name.

Wanderingwondering · 22/03/2016 20:44

I really like it for the lights connection but wimped out due to the Disney connection

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 22/03/2016 20:45

I don't think of Disney when I hear the name Jasmine at all.
Aurora Borealis for me too.

There are many people who have very little awareness of Disney princesses you know.

Branleuse · 22/03/2016 20:45

id think of the aurora borealis

nectarini1983 · 22/03/2016 20:47

Very true Allpizzas. ...maybe I'm too up on my disney general knowledge!

Northern lights for sure. Lovely name!

ChutesTooNarrow · 22/03/2016 20:47

I have an Aurora. If commented on, which is rarely, people tend to think northern lights. She is actually named for the goddess Aurora.

nectarini1983 · 22/03/2016 20:49

That's good to know. I really love it, just don't want dd1 feeling hard done by in the name stakes!

Disney but it's my favourite girls name! If I had another DD that would be her name it's beautiful

Wolpertinger · 22/03/2016 21:07

I would think goddess of the dawn.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 22/03/2016 21:08

I would think of the sound a dog makes when it's chewing a toffee.

camelfinger · 22/03/2016 21:09

Erring towards northern lights. It looks nice written down, but saying it out loud is clumsy for me. Would probably get used to it though!

BikeRunSki · 22/03/2016 21:12

Northern lights for me too.

JenniferAnistonsHair · 22/03/2016 21:14

A friend of mine has an Aurora, named after the northern lights. Without exception, every single person assumes she's named after Sleeping Beauty. My friend gets the rage about it!!

nectarini1983 · 22/03/2016 21:17

That's my fear JenniferAnistonsHair! Although have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of people here veering towards the lights: had expected the opposite.
