Aurora - sleeping beauty or northern lights

Hello

Would appreciate some honest feedback...am 37 weeks pregnant with second daughter.

My current favourite name is Aurora but i want to know if people associate this with Disney/ Sleeping Beauty or with Aurora Borealis/ northern lights? I'm hoping it's the latter as dd1 doesn't have a 'disney princess' name but step daughter does and don't want her to feel left out! The many many joys of picking baby names!

Thanks ladies!

Sleeping Beauty for me, sorry! Lovely name though. My friend has an Aurora and calls her Rori :)

Roseberrry · 22/03/2016 21:20

Both. Dh loves that name but I can't stand it. Too much of a mouthful. I like a nice easy name that I can shout several times a day.

aurorie11 · 22/03/2016 21:23

I think Greek Goddess of the dawn.... I've opted my real name

RockUnit · 22/03/2016 21:24

Northern Lights Smile

The Northern Lights will still be there long after Disney/Sleeping Beauty have become dated.

marjolaine · 22/03/2016 21:36

I think goddess of dawn first. I love it and suggested it for DD but DH said pornstar Confused

Jade1212 · 22/03/2016 21:59

DH says: "northern lights, what's Sleeping Beauty got to do with it?" :D

Would you consider Aurelie ?
I think it's so pretty.

TwoLittleBlooms · 22/03/2016 22:19

Love the name, I associate it immediately with Borealis - I think if it brought sleeping beauty to mind first for me then I couldn't use it - but that is just me and my quirks - it would still be a beautiful name!

LightTurquoise · 22/03/2016 22:34

I think of Northern Lights.

It's a gorgeous name! I'm just not the type to use it! Sad

LightTurquoise · 22/03/2016 22:35

I'm also in SE Eng:

Bogburglar99 · 22/03/2016 22:39

Recently met a baby Aurelia? Any good?

StarkyTheDirewolf · 22/03/2016 22:41

Both, I love it, doesn't work with our surname at all though sadly!

Junosmum · 22/03/2016 23:35

Instantly sleeping beauty.

Aurora and Jasmine? I'd assume you were a Disney nut.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 22/03/2016 23:42

Disney

Aurélia is beautiful

scrivette · 23/03/2016 03:28

Both, it's a lovely name.

madwomanbackintheattic · 23/03/2016 03:47

Neither - it makes me think of Aurora Leigh, the poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning...

Narp · 23/03/2016 06:45

I would think Disney

I also think it's a mouthful. Sorry.

If you want pretty and a bit exotic, what about a French name:

Elodie
Odette
Claudine
Sandrine

nectarini1983 · 23/03/2016 06:47

I'm swaying towards Aurelia so thanks for that suggestion...starts the same and actually easier to say. I like the Spanish connection plus no Disney connotations?! Could be a winner! Xx

I love Aurora! Deffo think of the aurora borealis (but also Aurora Illinois from one of my favourite films!).

If this bump had been a girl, Aurora would have been very high on the list (with nn 'Rory', in the style of Gilmore Girls!)

rugbychick · 23/03/2016 07:07

I know an adult Aurora, who is just lovely. Beautiful personality, and liked by everyone

HeadTilt · 23/03/2016 07:31

Due to having a 4yo DD I think Sleeping Beauty. Before I'd have thought Northern Lights. With Jasmine I would definitely think Disney Princesses.

Aurelia is lovely. Prefer it to Aurora, even without the a disney issue.

RalphSteadmansEye · 23/03/2016 07:35

Sleeping Beauty to me, too, but the ballet, not the Disney film. Then Northern Lights. Wouldn't think Disney because I've never seen it (have a ds).

(Surely I'm not the only one? But have never seen my answer to the "Aurora" question before!)

mrsschu · 23/03/2016 07:52

I really like the name Aurora. My first thought is of a book I read as a child - it was written by a Norwegian author and the main character was called Aurora. It was quite a progressive book at the time (80's) as in the story Aurora's father stayed home to mind the kids while her mother was the bread winner. Bit long winded but in summary, I wouldn't think of Disney (didn't actually know sleeping beauty's name was Aurora!).

joyfulworld · 23/03/2016 07:52

I think of the Northern Lights .
