We really like Matthew for a boys name and were thinking of George as a middle name .Is it a good ,nice ,clever boys name I know some on MN think of certain names as naughty boy names from experience as teachers etc.

A friend of mine told me today that there is a most delightful boy in the school where she works called Matthew, she said he looks like a little angeI.I think it will definitely be Matthew.

In my (prejudiced) experience, Matthews are very cute. Also clever and very well-behaved at school Grin

Yes timeless and without a lot of baggage. I think it is quite classless too as I know people across the classes called Mathew.

A safe choice.

Bajanella · 19/03/2016 17:41

All the Matthews I know are bright, clever, cheerful, polite boys.

Narp · 19/03/2016 19:16

Yes. I love it. It's DS2s middle name. To be honest, I wish I'd gone with my gut and chosen it as a first name.

pinocchiosnose · 19/03/2016 20:08

Lovely name

I only know nice, clever Matthews (strange really, hadn't thought of that before). It's a name we'd have liked if it wasn't already so prevalent in both sides of the family.

Be prepared for 'Maff' if you're in the West Country!

Thereissomuchworktobedone · 19/03/2016 22:08

Not in the West Country,I.hadn't heard that before.

Lovely boy at in my DS's school is called Matthew,it's a great name.

PerspicaciaTick · 25/03/2016 14:18

I love it and even tolerate the inevitable "Maffoo" which goes with being in Essex.

Suddenlylastsummer · 25/03/2016 14:33

Surely not everyone is Essex speaks like that!

PerspicaciaTick · 25/03/2016 15:32

No not everyone - but enough for it to be a very common pronunciation.

Narp · 25/03/2016 16:32

"Maff-ewe" (I am from Essex)

SatsukiKusakabe · 25/03/2016 16:50

Agree narp "maffoo" is more Norfolk.

Pinkheart5915 · 25/03/2016 16:56

I think it is a good strong classic boys name

Yxc9eh3z1 · 23/04/2020 23:48

My name is Matthew George. Did you settle on that as his name? I was Googling the meaning of my name and saw this post how, coincidental.

87Callista · 24/04/2020 00:08

I love Matthew! It's such a great name!

I wouldn't personally use Matt or Matty. Doormatty.

I think Matthew is a strong, no nonsense boys name and it's due a comeback. You should go for it!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/04/2020 01:47

It's a good name but I don't like it

480Widdio · 24/04/2020 02:07
