And which of these two spellings do you prefer - Isabel or Isabelle.

Cel982 · 19/02/2016 19:57

Pretty much, yeah. Isabel is my favourite spelling.

StitchesInTime · 19/02/2016 19:57

I'd pronounce them the same.

I prefer the Isabel spelling.

LettuceLaughton · 19/02/2016 19:58

Very slight difference - IsAbel vs IsObel.

EmmaWoodlouse · 19/02/2016 20:03

I don't hear any difference at all as the middle syllable is usually just a neutral "uh". I like Isabel best too. Isobel looks slightly like it should be pronounced like isobar!

GiraffeHouse · 19/02/2016 20:04

They sound the same.
Isobel is my favourite

NoCapes · 19/02/2016 20:08

They're the same name
Isobel is the best spelling (I may be biased as DD is Isobel Grin)

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2016 20:08

Yes they are pronounced the same. I prefer the spelling Isabel.

AmberNectarine · 19/02/2016 20:08

My DD is Isabelle so that is my preference!

Sophronia · 19/02/2016 20:11

I pronounce them the same. I prefer Isobel.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 19/02/2016 20:13

I say Isahbelle or Isohbell but the difference is hardly noticeable!

SimonLeBonOnAndOn · 19/02/2016 20:17

Isobel was my favourite girls name but never got to use it.

NNalreadyinuse · 19/02/2016 20:17

I thought Isobel was the Scottish spelling.
I think they are slightly different in pronunciation. Of the two spellings you asked about, I prefer Isabel.

BellaDona · 19/02/2016 20:23

Apparently they are all pronounced the same, Angry but Isabel is the only correct spelling. Grin
But most people in the UK tend to write Isabelle or Isobel.

HerbieRidesAgain · 19/02/2016 20:24

I like Isabel, and personally wouldn't shorten it but if I was going to or knew for sure she would get Belle then I'd go for Isabelle

Elllicam · 19/02/2016 20:25

I would say Is-ah-bel and Is-oh-bel.

Scoose · 19/02/2016 20:26

My one is Isabelle too so I prefer this

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/02/2016 21:39

I'd say them ever so slightly differently but for all intents and purposes they sound the same.

KatieT12 · 19/02/2016 23:17

Very slightly different, IMO: IsAbelle/IsObel

I prefer the Isabelle spelling Smile

Trickytricky · 19/02/2016 23:25

Isobel is the Scottish spelling. All pronounced the same Isabelle/Isobel/Isabel

MargotLovedTom · 19/02/2016 23:39

Isabel makes me want to go all Spanish and say "Eeess-a-bel" Wink. I prefer Isobel.

thebiscuitindustry · 20/02/2016 00:20

I'd pronounce them the same.

I like the spelling Isabelle.

CityFox · 20/02/2016 07:46

Isobel is the Scottish spelling. Both are 'correct'.

CityFox · 20/02/2016 07:46

Meant to add they are pronounced the same.

Sofiria · 20/02/2016 11:41

I'd pronounce them slightly differently - Isabel(le) with a definite /a/ sound, and Isobel with more of a schwa (is-uh-bel).

waxweasel · 21/02/2016 11:29

I'd pronounce them all the same. I like them all but prefer Isobel, followed by Isabelle. Isabel looks a bit incomplete to me, maybe because the french version seems to be more common so I'm more used to seeing a -elle ending.
