And which of these two spellings do you prefer - Isabel or Isabelle.

I personally prefer Isabel to Isabelle, and don't like Isobel at all. Isabelle is too fussy. I don't see the point in the extra two letters.

Not just Spanish , Allice it's also the most common English spelling I think (or used to be). For example, this historical character, Richard III's sister-in-law (who was English) - she appeared in 'The White Queen': en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabel_Neville,_Duchess_of_Clarence

Isobel is an alternative version (Scottish, pps are saying?) and Isabelle is French.

I have a Isobel so that's my favourite spelling. Isn't Isabel the Spanish way of spelling it?

Dh and I were discussing this yesterday I like Isobel and he liked Isobelle. I prefer Isabelle to Isobelle. We may have to not use the name due to thesee complexities!

I've got an aunt Isabel and her granddaughter is called Isobel (known as Is-oh)... My cousin thought she was having a boy and hadn't considered girls names so when Isoh arrived they decided to name her after her Grandma but differentiated between the two by using a different spelling Smile Both pronounced the same. My DS would have been Isabelle if he was a girl... love the name and big family connection to it. My grandmother was called Isabella.

Beautiful name. I think they're all pronounced the same, aren't they? - I know I do! Slightly prefer Isabel myself as I feel this is the standard version, and I like how they use that spelling in Spain as well.

But all are lovely.

They are pronounced the same way. My family are all Scots and we have tons of granny and great aunt Isobels (spelt the Scottish way). However Isabelle (French?) is a lovely and very common spelling too.

I say them differently.

Prefer the Isobel spelling.

It's a beautiful name however you say/spell it.

Practically the same.

Isobel is my favourite - I think it looks neater on the page!

I can't tell how it's spelled by how people pronounce it, so I guess they sound the same.
I prefer Isabel or Isabelle. The 'sob' part of Isobel makes it look unhappy.

I'd pronounce them all the same. I like them all but prefer Isobel, followed by Isabelle. Isabel looks a bit incomplete to me, maybe because the french version seems to be more common so I'm more used to seeing a -elle ending.

I'd pronounce them slightly differently - Isabel(le) with a definite /a/ sound, and Isobel with more of a schwa (is-uh-bel).

Meant to add they are pronounced the same.

Isobel is the Scottish spelling. Both are 'correct'.

Isabel makes me want to go all Spanish and say "Eeess-a-bel" Wink. I prefer Isobel.

Very slightly different, IMO: IsAbelle/IsObel

I prefer the Isabelle spelling Smile

I'd say them ever so slightly differently but for all intents and purposes they sound the same.

I like Isabel, and personally wouldn't shorten it but if I was going to or knew for sure she would get Belle then I'd go for Isabelle

Report

Apparently they are all pronounced the same, Angry but Isabel is the only correct spelling. Grin
But most people in the UK tend to write Isabelle or Isobel.
