Opinions on Griffin (Finn)

Izzieee · 16/02/2016 20:48

I like Finn and Finley, but it's just too popular! I have looked at all the other names which could make Finn. However, I saw Griffin and really like it! I'll interchange between Griffin and Finn - I'm sure his friends/extended family will call him Griff/Griffy, but I like that too. Opinions?

I much prefer Finn on its own, but then I wouldn't worry about whether it is popular or not.

If you like griffin go for it.

poocatcherchampion · 16/02/2016 20:51

Love it!!! Wish I had it!

Izzieee · 16/02/2016 20:52

If we were to go for a popular name, I'd pick something different, but I don't want him to be known by his surname Sad

Finn is very popular round here, so I'd be more likely to shorten it to Griff. I really like it.

ThomasRichard · 16/02/2016 20:56

Isn't it an ugly/fierce mythical creature?

Izzieee · 16/02/2016 20:58

I thought the creature was quite cool Grin

I wouldn't, but Griffin is a surname in my extended family.
I love Finbar but DP has vetoed.
Maybe Fionn?

Izzieee · 16/02/2016 21:12

We are calling him Finn, at the moment, so not sure we'll switch to Griff!

Fionn isn't really our style, but thanks Smile

I actually like it!

thebiscuitindustry · 16/02/2016 21:16

Not keen on Griffin so I vote stick with Finn/Finley.

Izzieee · 16/02/2016 21:18

Finn/Finley is just too popular Confused

I do prefer Griffin to Finley, and am quite fond of names that have multiple easy nicknames (which I then use all of when pretending to tell off a child)

bunique · 16/02/2016 21:45

I like it!

Luciferbox · 16/02/2016 21:51

I have a Gruffydd (we're Welsh) and we call him Griff and Griffy mostly. Obviously I'm biased but I think it's a lovely name.

RockinHippy · 16/02/2016 23:00

Really like it

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/02/2016 10:23

I like Finn and I like Griff but I don't like Griffin.

mrsschu · 17/02/2016 14:21

I like Finn but not Griffin. I think if you want him to be Finn you need to go with a more obvious Finn type name. Two (very old school, Irish!) suggestions would be Fintan and Finbar. Fintan was on my OMG list for DS.

thisisbloodyridiculous · 17/02/2016 14:46

Love it it's in my top 5 boy's names

sarah2011 · 17/02/2016 14:50

It made me instantly think of grufallo sorry

Mclaren37 · 22/02/2016 05:48

Love Griff! Like Griff Rhys Jones. Great Welsh name. I like Griffin too as a long name. Nice that it gives him the Finn option too, although I'm a little bored with Finn while Griff is fab. Either way you should go for it!

gooseberryroolz · 22/02/2016 05:57

It just feels a bit of a stretch/pointless to have Griffin in the BC and then always call him Finn. Griff makes more sense, if you liked that, but that's not your mission is it?

gooseberryroolz · 22/02/2016 05:58

Phin short for Phineas?

KatieT12 · 22/02/2016 10:12

I love Griffin and goose the OP said that they would change between Finn and Griffin

Sarah715 · 22/02/2016 10:17

Sorry, not my cup of tea. I like Finn though.

MyNameIsSuz · 22/02/2016 10:17

I love it! I also know a grown up Griffin, he goes by Griff but still, everyone thinks his name is cool. I also think if you want to shorten it to Fin you can, he'll get used to it when he's tiny and I like having a name you can use interchangeably. I named my ds Franklin for similar reasons - we liked Frankie but not as a whole name and didn't like Francis. It's just organically happened that we call him a mixture of Franklin, Frank, Franks and Frankie, and he's fine with it.
