Wulfric or Cato

I know most of you will hate these names but after a long process, DH and I have finally come up with a top 2. I love both and DH is leaning towards Wulfric.

DD is called Persephone, which everyone also hated a few years back Grin but it suits her and we've never regretted her name.

So which do you like more? I know some of you will be tempted to say neither Wink but that's not very helpful.

Wulfric, Wolf for short, awesome!

WinterWinnie · 14/02/2016 20:18

Cato

I thought it was pronounced Cay-toe rather than Cay-to (K2) - as K2 is the ward number for one of the local psychiatric wards I will have to go with Wulfric.

Cato. Wulfric is dire IMO, sorry. Not that it matters - call your baby what you want!!

PinanNidan · 15/02/2016 07:38

I know a wolfie, he was the loveliest boy! He's a company director now too.

BikeRunSki · 15/02/2016 07:57

For distinction, Wulfric. Cato sounds like a nn for Kate.

soundsystem · 15/02/2016 08:29

I love both, prefer Cato only because I don't know any, and I know a little Wulfric and a Wolfrun. adding Cato to my list for if this baby is a DS I would intuatively know how to pronounce it and if you have a Persephone you must have to guide people on pronunciation sometimes anyway?

nooka · 15/02/2016 08:45

This is what Cato brings to my mind. He was a particularly vicious tribune in the Hunger Games. Alternatively calling your kid after Cato the Elder seems just a wee bit pretentious!

As a name without any connotations I think it's better than Wulfric, because the nickname Wolfie makes me think of Citizen Smith, just seems very silly really.

TheOptimisticPessimist · 15/02/2016 14:30

Definitely Wulfric! I've always wanted a Wolfie. DCs aren't on the cards just yet so I have time to work on DP...

Envythat your DP shares your great taste!

PreggoandTired · 15/02/2016 19:19

Love Wulfric, has really grown on me, might even steal it Grin!

Yika · 15/02/2016 20:31

Wulfric for me - though I did laugh when I read them and thought 'only on Mumsnet'!

Claraoswald36 · 15/02/2016 20:33

Persephone is utterly beautiful I love it. Cato I quite like but Wulfric is a bit pretentious. Sorry. Sounds like it will be the ne t Arlo type name.

BettyBi0 · 16/02/2016 06:12

My instinct was "Whaaaaat?? Only on MN" for both sorry.

But actually they've both grown on me. Cato is a more unusual version or all the Milo, Arlo type names which I seem to hear a lot locally at nursery. There also seem to be a bunch of Wilfreds lately. Would it worry you that people may assume you said Wilfred rather than Wulfric?
