Wulfric or Cato

I know most of you will hate these names but after a long process, DH and I have finally come up with a top 2. I love both and DH is leaning towards Wulfric.

DD is called Persephone, which everyone also hated a few years back Grin but it suits her and we've never regretted her name.

So which do you like more? I know some of you will be tempted to say neither Wink but that's not very helpful.

Wulfric!

Think a lot of people would pronounce Cato wrong (myself included)

TattieHowkerz · 13/02/2016 08:00

Of the two, Wulfric. Cato makes me think of Kato in the Pink Panther.

MissWimpyDimple · 13/02/2016 08:12

Ok, I thought it was Cat-oh as well. So in that case def wulfric, though I personally wouldn't do either.

SiriusGoLieDown · 13/02/2016 08:17

Cato oh errrrr. Inspector Cluesaus (sp) room mate.

Someone will hum the pink panther theme tune at him.

Nospringflower · 13/02/2016 08:21

Cato. Not keen on Wulfric but Wolfie is cute!

ifigoup · 13/02/2016 08:22

I'll be an outlier and say I prefer Cato with Persephone, but Wulfric is also an awesome name.

Also props for having such good taste! I think we would be friends!

tilder · 13/02/2016 08:24

If I heard Cato I would assume you were a massive hunger games fan. I guess much the same as some of the Twilight names, which increased in popularity after the books were published (am thinking esme).

Wulfric wouldn't be my choice. I like wolfie as a nickname though.

R0nJ0n · 13/02/2016 08:25

Wulfric, nn Wolfie. DH works with a Wolfie (he's German, full name Wolfgang) I think Wolfie is a brilliant, cool nn.

julfin · 13/02/2016 08:26

Loving the classical influence!

I like Wulfric and would go for that out of the two. Actually I like Cato too but I think lots of people a) wouldn't pronounce it right and b) would think it's a girl's name as it sounds like Kate. I knew a Cato - short for Catherine - and it really suited her, so I now can't really imagine it on a boy (even though the original was male) but perhaps that's just me.

I like Persephone very much. Out of interest, does it get shortened? Seph/Sephie would be cute too.

Ha ha PurpleDaisies made me laugh!

StitchesInTime · 13/02/2016 08:34

Wulfric.

Isn't Cato a Roman name?

Roonerspism · 13/02/2016 08:52

I'm sure Wulfric is one of Dumbledore's middle names.

I rather like it provided you send DS to Hogwarts

JasperDamerel · 13/02/2016 09:01

Wulfric.

tilder · 13/02/2016 09:04

That will my pop culture references. For me Cato is from a teen novel, I didn't register it as a classical name.

Yes Wulfric is one of Dumbledores names. Along with Brian. Although that's probably not to the ops taste (would guess it is just unusual in the current generation though ).

MazzleDazzle · 13/02/2016 09:09

At first glance I thought, what? But already I'm used to them both and I've always loved Persephone!

Hmmm, I like the sound of Cato in an Ozzie beach surfer dude sort of way. Wulfric is much more serious by comparison. There are plus points for both, but I think Wulfric swings it.

NameAgeLocation · 13/02/2016 09:14

Cato is very much a girls' name in Holland, very popular of late. (CAH-toe). Not that that should make a difference, just a factoid for you Smile

MargoH123 · 13/02/2016 11:47

@PurpleDaises Lol, your DH has a brilliant fake Starbucks name Grin

@Sofiria it's really rare that I hear that so cheers for that

@Sophronia We prefer Wulfric to similar names like Wolfram or Wolfgang

@ifigoup I do believe we would get on brilliantly in the real world, it takes a special sort to like my names Wink

@julfin it's rare people call her by an nn but when they do its either Persie or Sephie.

@Roonerspism if I could send them to Hogwarts, I'd do it in a heartbeat and would make sure to hide in the trunk so that I could tag along.

I think Wulfric has won this one, by a massive landslide. Surprised but not displeased, it's a brilliant name imo Grin

Once he panicked and said Wolfman. I was in stitches. Grin

ClarenceTheLion · 13/02/2016 12:06

I love Persephone! And I love both your boys names too.

I wish I lived in London Sad Out here in the sticks you are supposed to stick to biblical names, otherwise it's Jayden/Hayden/Brayden for the boys, and Lily/Amelia/anything-else-from-the-suburban-Top-10 for the girls.

dementedma · 13/02/2016 12:08

Only on MN Grin. Be glad you don't live round here OP. Your kids would be tormented to death with names like Persephone and Wulfric....

Flappingandflying · 13/02/2016 12:33

Wish I called ds Wulfric. He'd be a great Woofie. Do it. cayto sounds like K2 which is either a mountain or the swimming pool in Crawley!

ArcheryAnnie · 13/02/2016 12:42

I think Wulfric with Cato as a middle name.

I bloody love Wulfric.

@Olbersparadox For every person that mocks their names their will be another out there that loves it, the world's a massive place. I'm not going to avoid a name I like because people won't like it, I don't live my life according to other people's taste

OP posts:
Tartyflette · 13/02/2016 19:14

Er but you asked for opinions on which people prefer, so posters are going to give reasons for their opinions. And in mine, they're both a little, well, contrived, trying-too-hard. (To be different, ultra MC, cool, whatever)--

Shemozzle · 13/02/2016 19:36

It's ok to ask for opinions from people who share a similar taste to you though tarty and dismiss any criticism from people who don't.

I love both, think I prefer Wulfric. I have Wolf on my shortlist. For the record, I live in a deprived northern town and have similar taste in names. I don't think great names are only allowed for those who live in London.
