He's nearly 4 weeks now, no name...

I started a thread the day before he was born, but we still can't pick a name, it's beyond a joke now. Hubble and I don't agree. We were going for Henry but it's way too popular, we got weak reactions when trying it out (not that I need big reactions, but I could see I'm not sure either, people are like 'meh'). Most people seem to know at least 3 others already.

So: Elliot, Zachary or Simon?
Simon was a grandfather. Is it dull?
Elliot - does it remind you of idiot?
Zachary - does Zach sound like sack?
To go with Alexandra and Aurora (she is Rory)
Jewish heritage, non religious English family.

All opinions welcomed, my mum is fed up of discussing it and frankly so am I!

We wanted a strong, solid name, not too 'of the moment'. Thought that was Henry but right now it's very 'now', it seems.

Zachary NN Zac.

Eliot makes me think of Billy Eliott and E.T - I know a few Eliots 18-30ish now but no little Eliots.

UptownFunk00 · 09/02/2016 10:14

Which I mean is also a good choice as won't be loads in class.

5minutestobed · 09/02/2016 10:17

I like Zachary.

BikeRunSki · 09/02/2016 10:17

Elliot and Zachary (especially Zachary) are quite popular.

Simon will be far more distinctive in his age group. I rather like it, due a renaissance.

Baconyum · 09/02/2016 10:20

I agree on Simon, very few in his age, but loads of Elliot's and Zachary's

CupcakesAndFizz · 09/02/2016 10:21

Good point BikeRunSki. Well, Simon is my husband's favourite. Maybe I should cave.

But 'Simple Simon met a pie-man', 'Simon says...'?

I'm overthinking this, aren't I??

Henry is the best option still imo. Classic and goes well with siblings

Elliott - next best

Simon - doesn't go with siblings. Use as middle name

Zachary - sounds too like Rory

Henry Simon is lovely

Or consider:
Zane - like Zak but not the Zachary sounding like Rory issue

Maximilian/Max - again a classic, travels well and works well in all cultures

Hendrix - Henry vibe with a twist. Goes will with siblings

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 09/02/2016 10:27

It took me weeks to name ds, I totally get your panic. My advice is forget about popular/not popular/potential for teasing/what anyone thinks etc and pick the one you really like.
Personally I like Elliot a lot. Not Simon so much. If Jewish-ish you could go for Shimon? ( she-mon).
I like Jacob too. Jacob Elliot?
Haha, I'm making it worse aren't I?

fredandme123 · 09/02/2016 10:32

How about Alistair. Sorry to add another name but fits your criteria and the you have all a's?

snorepatrol · 09/02/2016 10:39

I like Zachary other names that remind me of Henry are

William
Thomas
James
Harry

Or Isaac is a nice twist on Zachary and not as common.

Congratulations on the baby

CaptainWarbeck · 09/02/2016 10:40

I don't think any of those names are particularly tease-able and they're all lovely.

Which do you like the best? After all you're going to be saying this name for years and years to come Smile I'd ignore other people's reactions at this point, if you'd decided before he was born and announced straight away I'd bet you'd get a universal 'that's a great name' for all your picks.

Natsku · 09/02/2016 10:40

I like Zachary or Simon though I agree with Artanco that Henry is still the best option.

Took me 10 weeks to name my daughter after she was born! She ended up thinking her name was 'Baby' when she was 2 because I called her that more than I did her actual name because of those first 10 weeks when she was only known as baby.

FarrowandBallAche · 09/02/2016 10:48

I think Simon goes with your other dc's best.

Cloudybutwarm · 09/02/2016 10:48

If you really like Henry you should go for that! It doesn't really matter what other people think - it's not like it's a weird name!

(Disclaimer I have a Henry and it suits him perfectly. And people have always been very positive about it. He was actually called Thomas Henry originally but after 1 week I knew his name was the wrong way round for him!)

StDogolphin · 09/02/2016 10:56

I think you need a total rethink! Some names out of left field that you see with a new light. None of the ones you have listed are right or you would have chosen by now!

How about another name beginning with A?

Pantsalive · 09/02/2016 11:02

Elliot Simon

CupcakesAndFizz · 09/02/2016 11:02

You might be right StDogolfin...

I liked Augustus (nn Gus) but if I'm nervy about reading that's probably not a good idea.

Captain Warbeck, you made me feel better, thanks.

Fraser
Isaac

Smile
Jw35 · 09/02/2016 11:10

None on your list work well with your other 2! You have classic pretty names and simon is too dull. Elliot is too different in comparison and Zachary is too common.
Henry works. It may be popular but it's also a classic and it's lovely!

SaveSomeSpendSome · 09/02/2016 11:11

I really like Issac.

What about....

Marcus
Fraser
Harvey
Harris

Quickchangeup · 09/02/2016 11:12

I'd totally ignore the reactions of other people, he's your baby to name as you see fit. Of your choices I would go with either Henry Simon or Elliot Simon. Zachary is really popular at the moment but if you really like it then that shouldn't stand in your way.
Henry, Alexandra and Aurora work nicely together, as do Elliot, Alexandra and Aurora.

StDogolphin · 09/02/2016 11:12

Gregor
Marcus
Rufus
Vitus

Ooof35 · 09/02/2016 11:13

Zachary all the way!
