I started a thread the day before he was born, but we still can't pick a name, it's beyond a joke now. Hubble and I don't agree. We were going for Henry but it's way too popular, we got weak reactions when trying it out (not that I need big reactions, but I could see I'm not sure either, people are like 'meh'). Most people seem to know at least 3 others already.

So: Elliot, Zachary or Simon?
Simon was a grandfather. Is it dull?
Elliot - does it remind you of idiot?
Zachary - does Zach sound like sack?
To go with Alexandra and Aurora (she is Rory)
Jewish heritage, non religious English family.

All opinions welcomed, my mum is fed up of discussing it and frankly so am I!

We wanted a strong, solid name, not too 'of the moment'. Thought that was Henry but right now it's very 'now', it seems.

Augustus is fabulous. You already have two with a so a third might as well go with it

Augustus Henry Simon 'Surname' . Job done!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 09/02/2016 11:30

Why wouldn't Elliot remind anyone of an idiot. It's a beautiful underused name. My only fault is that there aren't enough options for good NN's. El, Ellie are too feminine, so that's why I wouldn't use it.
Simon again a lovely underused name. Now a days.
Not keen on Zachary. Just different opinions, I think you're over thinking the Zac rhymes with Sack though. Yes it does, but my DD is Molly, which rhymes with Trolley. She's never had any issues with her name, Smelly Kelly, Pat the Rat, Clare the Bear. You could go on forever. My point is go for Zachary if you like it.

Sophronia · 09/02/2016 11:42

Simon or Zachary. Not keen on Elliot.

tinofbiscuits · 09/02/2016 11:59

I like Zachary and Henry.

Jessbow · 09/02/2016 12:26

Would you consider Timothy?

BramblePie · 09/02/2016 12:27

I like Elliot and Zachary. Both are on my list!

Sunshine511 · 09/02/2016 12:35

Zachary is our chosen boys name! So that gets my vote Smile

Sunshine511 · 09/02/2016 12:36

I should add, I like Elliot but not so keen on Simon.

Wishful80sMontage · 09/02/2016 12:41

I'd stick with Henry.
I was in exactly same position I love the name Henry but thought it was too popular and towards the end of pregnancy I panicked and started thinking of more unusual names but nothing matched up..our Henry is now 2 months old we know one other Henry but its a fab name so I'm not surprised others love it as much as me.

Sleepyandiknowit · 09/02/2016 13:48

I have a Rory Alexander and his brother is Oscar Henry :) I really liked the name Isaac if I was going for a third. I still like Oscar but there are lots round us. Not too common in other places so might work for you xx

Nikkinoo77 · 09/02/2016 16:09

Ds1 is Elliott,14, and he has never been called idiot.
Smile

Excitedforxmas · 09/02/2016 16:15

What about Simeon ?

zippyswife · 09/02/2016 19:13

I also have a baby boy with no name! Elliott is on our list too. We like zac but it's very popular round these parts (Home Counties). Good luck. It's tough deciding!! X

Luckystar1 · 09/02/2016 19:20

Love, love, love Augustus. You know that transatlantic boat race recently? British crew won? 2 of those boys are Gus - it's clearly a good, go-getter name!

StDogolphin · 09/02/2016 19:21

Silas

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/02/2016 19:27

Love Elliot. Not so keen on zachary. Simon is, to me, a little old fashioned. Don't worry about names being wide!y used, just go for what you like. Just out of interest, what have you been calling him for 4 weeks if he doesn't have a name??? Do you rotate between the options or just call him 'baby'?

Sometimesithinkimbonkers · 09/02/2016 19:37

Just give the kid a name !!!! It really doesn't matter!!!!
4 weeks for a child without an identity is very very unreasonable!

FarrowandBallAche · 09/02/2016 20:26

Your over use of !!!! is more unreasonable tbf.

FellOutOfBedTwice · 09/02/2016 20:41

Was coming to say Simple Simon. Don't do it. Bad name. I like Henry but I also like Zac. What about Reuben? First name that sprang to mind when you said Jewish/English heritage.

WhiteHairReally · 09/02/2016 20:55

I'm backing Excitedforxmas's suggestion.
Simeon. There are very few around. I know a 16 year old one, nn Sim. Cool but recognisable name with Jewish links. He was one of Joseph's brothers.

NewMrsX · 09/02/2016 20:58

Zachary was my first choice for ds and Henry was dhs favourite. Neither of us could agree to the others name (I like Henry but due to where we live he would have been called Enry and it would have annoyed me!) so we compromised with Edward.

I think sometimes it's possible to overthink it as in my opinion babies don't look like their name until they've been called it for a while so at first it seems a little strange. I know lots of people would disagree with that though and say their baby suited the name straight away.

Simon is nice, not unusual but not too popular atm. Not keen on Elliott

Biscuitsneeded · 09/02/2016 21:00

Simon - it is not used much these days but is a really good name. Or Jacob? Asher? Daniel?

BastardGoDarkly · 09/02/2016 21:07

Hmmm, I don't like Simon at all, my two Simon friends are both called Si, don't like it.

My boys called Zak, I didn't know it was so popular! Maybe it's different in different parts of the country? There's only him and one other at his school of 400 pupils.

I also like Elliott, Jacob and jasper :)

BastardGoDarkly · 09/02/2016 21:09

Oh, my ds tends to call his Elliot friend smelliot Hmm and Elliott calls him sack Hmm they're good friends really!
